Forgot how bad job searching was :(

Likewise chap, I was like that.

I can squat, lunge, split squat, deadlift fine. Make me run 100 metres my shins will explode :p I used to have terrible knees, squatting actually helped.

Anyway, just search for everything :)

yeah like im not already doing that and failing hard.

just hope i dont hit 12 months on this work program thing or il be asking whats the point of dragging myself down to be told to come back in 2-4 weeks.

Im aware you probably are, but the fact is, most people say theyre applying for everything when they clearly arent :p

Hope something comes along though :(

Hi guys/gals

I might possibly be looking to get out of the IT Industry, or atleast the helpdesk side of it. My issue is, my CV is practically catered for it, so how would I go about making it more generic? Main thing to change would be my personal profile, everything else job wise should relatively stay the same presumably?

I'm debating whether or not to follow my old Art/drawing routes...Is it worth it do you think? Bearing in mind I'm 26 now, and not done anything Art related qualification wise since secondary school.

I've always liked drawing, just not had the time in past years to follow on with it...I also like the idea of concept design (for films/games/anything)...How would one go about finding out more details?

Would you want to study it a bit more? Or just get stuck in? I've always been skeptical about studying Art (especially at higher education), I think you'd be better off starting a blog/portfolio and just practice.

I could study at home. Ideally, I would love to land a job where they just teach me on the go, however I know that is extremely unlikely (read: impossible) :p

The portfolio mention is a good idea, it's something I just need to sit down to every evening and crack on with something...I kind of prefer the idea of digital art, but again not sure where to go on that. I just feel doing what I'm doing now is a waste, I'm on helpdesk work because it's what I happen to 'know' if that makes sense?

Ironic, I started a year of Digital Art at uni and I've got interviews coming up for helpdesk/support :p

Heh :)

I should have gone to Uni really after school, just never pursued it. I was meant to do A-Level Art in sixth form but it didn't run and no one told me. So I panicked, and went to my hobby (IT)...Been there ever since.

Hell, I was in the same position when I created this thread back in 2009 :o

Maybe look at some evening courses at a college nearby? Acquire Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator and start doing some online tutorials or even find a book or a magazine that focuses on digital design. It's not too late, and its something you can do in your spare time for little to no cost :)

That's my thinking, I have Photoshop already luckily, I'm in a decent position to get something going for once, so I just need to act and do it. It's just a scary prospect!

I know of one website that I used to use when I liked 3d modelling, so I'll have a dig about on there for some tutorials, they also host monthly competitions and stuff, so it should help.

Had my first interview in London today, felt like it went really well. Got some lunch afterwards and got a phone call from the agency giving me feedback. They said the employer was impressed with me and I should hear back by the end of the week :)

Got one more interview on Thursday, feeling a bit more confident now.

Also thanks to Delvis for a few tips :)

Good work dude :)

Not started yet, just trying to get an action plan together, been talking to a friend who basically freelances and is more than willing to help information wise which is handy :)

Just need to get off my butt and start drawing again

Sadly buckeejit you have to take on a random job for a while just to get some money...I had to work in a factory for two weeks aggravating my tinnitus creating plaster bead coving just to get some money in :p
