Forgot how bad job searching was :(

Sorry to hear that Devrij :(

I'm not out of work, but I'm almost certainly going to be looking again....I want a career for once, not these random jobs I keep doing :( No idea where to start though.

For someone wanting to change careers, I mean completely change careers...How would you go about it? Are there places you can go to? People to speak to? Or any decent resources online?

I've basically been doing computer assembly and IT Support since I left school with the odd gap here and there, really want to get out of t now especially in my current job as there literally is no progression unless someone leaves....Might be wanting to get back in to my Art stuff as I used to enjoy doing that, it's just where to start? I could get a portfolio going but I'd still be where I am stuck in the same old rut :p

delvis the jobcentre of course, where else are you supposed to get help and advice. well thats what all the posters in them and the mp's say :P

honestly google and start working out what art stuff you want to do and google some more.

and yeah im still a jobless bum on the work program, but hopefully not much longer as the next apointment (whenever that is) if this silly bint i see now hasnt put me forward for both the job and the sia course she has told me about 8 and 3 weeks ago respectively il be asking to speak to the manager and area manager and making a right old stink.

Heh, indeed! :p

I just need to start spending 30 minutes in the evenings doing it or something, carry on with work here and see where it takes me. I think I need to start back with the basics, learn how to draw the human body again (proportionally) and work up in to digital work.

In an ideal world, I would find a low end apprentice Art job or something, somewhere I can get taught on the job, earn pittance and work my way up, I literally would love that.

or just perfect your own style and do something big and brash. get noticed or something.

seems to be the way with artistic stuff, you can be brilliant but unless your something new and different you end up as some desktop publisher or some such working hand to mouth.

I guess. I just hate being where I am at the moment and don't fancy being 30 / 40 and going "Oh" :(

Web design: worth getting in to? Easy to get in to? Many junior/complete rooky jobs going about?

Contemplating the above while I learn to draw again as I'm not going to be able to do drawing related jobs for a long time yet.

I want to get out of my current IT Role...In to practically anything at the moment, whats the best site for 'general' job vacancies? All I find it IT Support jobs at the moment, I really don't want to leave this job to go in to another Support role, I don;t think I can hack it.

Should be able to get something decent mate, word of warning though, going from an IT tech in a school to 1st line support (depending on the company) will probably be pretty dull.

Naturally, see what the jobs are like themselves as 1st line can mean anything nowadays :p

I will be starting Accounts Assistant position soon at a company. I am currently working as a casual worker at Royal mail. The company wants reference from Royal Mail. I will be working weekdays at the company. However I am thinking of continuing with Royal Mail also and doing Saturday shifts to save up money for travel and other household expenses. The thing is I am not sure if I am allowed two jobs. I will be sent the new contract soon so will need to see what company regulations are. I wanted to ask the HR lady at the company about this situation but I have backed down in case it looks bad upon me. I know one Royal Mail casual who is doing another job also. What do you guys suggest?

Unless their contract explicitly states you can't there should be no reason why not? I know loads of people who run 2/3 jobs.

The other thing naturally will be your tax code will be a lot worse off....Presumably BR?

well i hit the work program office this morning at remploy and talk about covering each others back and spouting utter rubbish.

from flat out lying claiming that they dont get any sort of money for finding me a job where i work for 6 months or more, to changing their story on what is going on with the supposed sia training 4 different times within ten minutes.

hopefully it will stick a rocket up their backsides but some how i doubt it, im expecting more prodding about what im doing to find work. one funny thing though, the manger says "we arnt here to find you work, that's your job" im sorry who's getting paid by the government to provide a service !?

now il have to wait for my next official appointment but i don't expect anything other than the same mediocrity and shifting of blame on to others. guess il have to try and find the cash for the sia course myself now as well as find out how i make sure these idiots don't see a penny when i find myself work

I'm guessing he's trying to say it's their job to find the jobs or show you them but it's your job to actually get the job? :p
