Forgot how bad job searching was :(

I see a lot of people mentioning that they have recently lost their JOB. Should I differentiate a 'job' and 'career' here?

I remember someone once said to me a job is something you do to just earn money, but career is something you plan and build on.

At the time I started this thread it was my career as I had been there 6 years, it was effectively 'just a job' but hey. No point nit picking

Since then I've not found a stable role. Come July I'd have been at my current place for two, but I wouldn't call it a career as it's pro rata for a start working in a school.

Well I have an interview lined up for a rubbish job at natwest, but it's certainly nice to finally get one.

Question: can I just pop into recruitment agencies or do I have to make an appointment?

Good luck for the interview :) I'd probably rather a job at a bank atm rather than where I am now :p

I don't see why not. Especially if you see an advert int he window.

Only thing is, they might get you to fill out a form to apply yourself to that agencey....so it may take a while :p

In general would you say you're better off sending a letter by post or applying via a website or an email or a bloody recruitment consultant....?

I'd like to avoid recruitment consultants :p Nothing has ever come from them for me personally.

All of my jobs have either been because someone knows someone in the company and they knew of a job offer going, or someone has told me about a job they've seen I might like.

Up to you, if you feel that it will help an application, then fair game. Just be prepared to do some explaining if they ask why you was there for only 4 months.

I have one job on my CV that I was only present at for 6 months, but I left on medical grounds effectively :p

Meh, mate told me about a job at his place, sent the CV over but the job was already taken.

Also found out an old colleague/friend has got a job at said place as well now! Which is really annoying :( Thought I'd have been told about the job first

Well, just updated my CV again, I'm off work next week as I'm only pro-rata where I am currently, so hopefully get some calls. Will need to apply to some jobs as well if anything takes my fancy

I basically have my name and address at the top, then in a box on the top left I have a personal profile, on the right I then have a key skills section.

Down the left I then have my two most recent jobs in bullet point format, then on the right I have a blurb of previous jobs. You could remove the right collumn entirely and just explain further on the two recent jobs.

Then at the bottom I have qualifications and other info, like driving license etc.
