Versions of Exchange prior to 2010(?) don't let you set up such messages in advance, which means you have to remember to put OOO on before you go away, and I never liked putting it on until the last minute. I've forgotten in the past. Obviously a load of BS in this case though given she'd been spotted in the office :)
 
Need some help. Basically passed interview and have to go for a meeting about pay and benefits and try and hash something out. Never done this, never even had to negotiate pay rise. So some tips, hints and knowledge would be appreciated.
What makes me especially nervous is the fact the contract is an extra 10hrs a week and the pension in my current job is gold plated and their pension is absolutely government bare minimum. And worried they'll try to haggle a seeming pay rise over current job, but neglecting the extra hours and nothing to help for pension.
Will I be expected to justify my demands or will it be more, what are you expecting and they go this is what we are willing to offer.

Without reading pages and pages....what job is it and what duties will you be doing? Pension thing is tricky and you'd really need some proper financial advice, not a computing forum advisor lol.

Extra 10 hours will be a bit of a long week tbh. You'd need to get the upper end of your pay scale target to make it really worth your while...sometimes it's better to work to live...rather than live to work ;)

Everything seems to have been moving relatively fast. Had an interview yesterday over the phone as it wasn't possible to attend in person. Both interviewers were very experience in this particular field and I was very honest about what I've done in the past.

Had a call back only two hours later to say they would like to have me on the project as an associate (basically getting a daily rate paid through my limited company). Great news.

I'm just hoping their client now accepts the project, then I'm good to go!

I'm nit looking for financial advice, I'm looking for what to expect in this meeting and how best to negotiate. Basically die to extra hours and worse pension, I'm looking for a higher pay, so I can put a much larger percentage into the pension to compensate and to increase hourly rate.

duties are basically team supervisor,
 
You need to know how pensions work, pros and cons etc, so you're in a position to negotiate whilst knowing what you need out of the meeting, to make it worth your while. Sorry if that came across wrong :)
 
I already now what I would need to do with the pension, currently I pay 6% and company pays a hell of a lot and as I say gold plated. To keep a similar pension in this new job I would need to up my contributions to about 15% and starting again.
 
Wahoo job offer. Just need to get contract, do a medical etc. All in all more of a sideways step. More basic but more hours.
However if I grab it by the horns and run with it. Excellent opportunities to be had. Rather than the dead end rut I've been stuck in for 6years. Which is why I said yes, its not good sitting in the dead end, but easy rut.
 
I shall be job hunting now, have been for a while TBH, since my current work is moving to the other side of town. I wuold normally take the extra walk time, but since they pay me what feels like a shilling a week im out.

I left school at 17 with nothing more than mediocre GCSEs since then I've done a mix of "engineering" based roles (CAD/CNC) and currently working as a windscreen fitter.

I'd like to move out of manual trades for something IT based, I'm not in a position to give up work and return to full time education but would be fine with taking a Pay drop.

I'd like to say I've got a good bit of Linux knowledge and a small amount of windows server/vmware knowledge but nothing notable in an enterprise environment.

I've looked at various routes including CCNA, Red hat certified tech etc. But I'm not sure where to begin or what area I should focus on so a little advice pointing me in the right direction would be really appreciated
 
Stuck in a rut.

Left my chef job due to it just getting worse and worse, trying to find work but cant for the life of me find a job that DOESNT want both weekend days ! GF is mon to fri and one of the reasons i left was the pressure from her as i had to work both weekend days.....

just want a mon to fri like everyone else :<

Err depends where you want to go and how much of a cut you're willing to take. I have no formal IT qualifications just the experience. You could easily land a tech role on a service desk or for a company, or a school for that matter.

Don't go for one in a school.

You will be asked to do EVERYTHING for little to no pay.

I'm on 12.6k term time only, But i do The following:

Run Clubs
Computer repairs
Maintenance
Imaging
VLE Managing and Maintenance <- ONLY ME
Web Design and maintenance <- ONLY ME
1st line support
2nd line support
3rd line support
Sims support

Did i mention also food bringer for the Office?

All for £950 per month after tax. And £180 of that goes to Tesco per month on fuel.

DON'T WORK IN A SCHOOL!

Congrats on the job mate. What was you doing and what you doing now? I've only got my medical thing in the way of me starting at the hospital now.
 
To be honest I'd happily drop to minimum wage.

It's something I need to do sooner rather than later as I don't want to get stuck in a rut where I am because the pay isn't bad (17k moving to 20k in jan)

I think the logical move would be a Linux admin based role as I'm fairly proficient and configuring/troubleshooting etc

Have you looked at open university, maybe pick a module you might enjoy and go from there. lots of people on here recommend them, plus you can work while your doing it:)
