due to no internet i've not been around much for the last couple of months but i have had internet all this weekend and have been perusing a few subsections and i can't believe how dead it is. i just had a look in General hardware and there are posts on the first page from 2 days ago? i've never seen anything like that before and i've been here on and off for 10 years. there have always been endless pages of new "spec me" threads being posted 24/7.

even the weekend football thread in sports arena hasn't been posted in since 21:55 last night. has everyone been banned? :p

I think it is mainly because people have lives outside of the forums!!

Also as people grow up, change, move on with their lives, start families, move countries, change jobs etc.... forums become less of a priority.

However, the userbase is still growing, we get new users joining everyday. The MM is super active, and some sub forums are constantly at full pelt.

It's great if you want to hear about how a girlfriend of x amount of time has just dumped some dozy sap and how heartbroken he is, people needing advice on whether to start a case on eBay, people posting the continually hilarious poo in the letterbox gag, posts about generally being clueless about stuff like how to move a table to do some decorating and other such pressing issues.

Welcome back you've been missed

In a nutshell :D

I find it the easiest and most user friendly forum to use. It's clean, simple and well moderated, which can't be said about most of the others.

I think the fappening has cost us several members.
Hospitalised with burn palms, you'd have thought they might have realised after one hand.
I find the hair on my palms protects me from that.

I would put it down to there being lots more sub-forums these days, the currently active users list tends to be as big now, if not bigger than it's ever been.

I haven't been a member for that long but I have noticed its gone quiet.

I don't know if its just more lengthy threads or that most have enough posts for MM so don't contribute anymore and just enjoy readings peoples wo's

time of posting 15 posts and 434 views says a lot

I would add that an abundance of sub-forums probably doesn't help. I expect there are loads of threads I would read and contribute to if they were in the major subforums e.g. food threads.

Also, I don't usually feel the need to pipe up about moderation on here, but whoever is moving threads pointlessly, stop it, because it only compounds the above problem. A legal / civil procedure question relating to a car fine? Move it to motors! A thread about learning to trade but containing a link to it being featured on a TV show? To music and box office with you! Scuba Diving?! How dare you not post in 'on the water'!

Just leave it be!
