Forza 2 Demo - Feedback

I wasn't aware FM2 was a sim? Sure it's a little more realistic that PGR3 but a sim it certainly isn't.

If it was, where are the mechanical problems during races etc etc (other than from crash damage)

the sim bit is the bit where you go "gosh look at my telemetry readings" whilst driving around the track and not looking where your going becasue your looking at the overlay. :D

seriously though, the sim bit is the setup of the car rather than the racing i would expect which isn't in the demo. It did feel rather arcade like in the demo but i expect that to change (i hope) in the actual game

I suppose it's as sim like as you can get on a game designed for a pad. I'll still get it, but it's being mis-sold imo!

this game rocks!

so tempted to get a wheel and pedels now

graphics arent all that great, but the gameplay is amazing, jaggies look annoying at first but you get used to them

Well, I have just been sampling all the cars, and what can I say... the game is sublime. Everything feels right to me. The graphics are perfectly acceptable, the framerate is silky smooth, the audio is fantastic, the handling of each different car is how you would think they should be.

Absolutely fantastic.

Totally agree, im impressed with it, plays very well with the wireless wheel, and of course this is only a demo, one track and a few cars.
Really looking forward to the full version where if im right we can alter the settings for the force feedback on the wheel, racing via live will be great fun too. I think a lot of people have been far too critical, although i agree that there was a lot of hype to live upto.

Well I was one of the people really excited for this game, but playing the demo has changed that.

The graphics are so very ugly, you can now see why they waited so long to release the demo, we were assured those aliased screenshots were such because they were taken from the frame buffer but just eugh, on the start grid the cars edges positively crawl with aliasing.

I don't get any sense of speed I don't know why, but 90mph doesnt feel like 90mph.

Lastly, why does every other car drown out the sound of mine on track?

Those 3 points have led me to cancel my pre-order.

I feel so let down after how they built it up :( :(

Spot on post, just played around with some cars, love the way they move around near the limit.

All those posts about the brakes only coming on near the end of the stroke for about 2mm, thats what brakes are like on nice cars (not your mums shoping trolley). Smack on the brakes with 330mm 6pot brembos and your wheels will lock fact. Most good brakes play on feel in a very short space of movement, makes it much more realistic.

I've been playing forza 1 for the last week, this spanks it in handling and fluidity. Jumped in with all aids off, manual gears from the off, only way to play it.

Just noticed something pretty cool..

on the straight , full throttle, then switch to side view, and slam on the brakes. only tried it on the 997 Turbo, but watch the discs glow. :)

It amused me for a few times anyway :p

not that impressed to be honest for all the hype it had

it reminds of me of toca race driver don't really get a next gen something new vibe from it like pg3 had and that is ancient now

not really a Sim fan so maybe some of the subtlety is lost on me but still gfx wise not impressed

Happens on a number of them at least, noticed it a lot on the TVR when I was watching the replay.

Overall, I think its ok. Nothing special, just feels a little bland and I cant see myself forking out £30+ for it. Might pick it up at some point, but wont be rushing out to get it.

Hmmm tough one. Smooth framerate. I always like the chase view, but spent my life in the gravel. Switched to the view with dials on the screen and instantly never ran wide again  Honestly I was 40 seconds faster. But that view for me is hideous.

The car looks just awful. Like the Nascar in daytona on the bloody Saturn :(

The track and scenary are fine by me but the car is shocking.

The brakes too, I had everything turned off. It felt like I was driving and braking on ice.

Thats not to say I hate the game, I'm going to give it a lot more effort over the weekend before I write it off.

I think I might play this eventually on rental but settle for the next PGR.

I definitely wouldnt say the cars look bad. The brakes you really want ABS on unless your prepared to put in a good amount of time to control your left finger properly.

I'd rather keep going with it off. The car in furthest chase view looks woefull to me and my poor eyes. Granted thats minor and a personal choice but it's the first racing game i've played on this gen where i've thought that.

For the tape, I was using the Nissan hairdresser car in C class.

Just out of interest i tried the vga cable and the jaggies dont seem as bad as using component and even though i thought the cars could look better i will still be buying this game without a question .

Well I'm in the disappointed camp.

Graphics-wise I've seen better on the Dreamcast and as has been mentioned above you're bombing down the main straight and it seems like you're still in first gear.

As for handling it's another one of those games that has you believe being difficult to drive constitutes realism, the cars just seem to have zero grip and understeer something chronic.

I've just had an hour on the demo...

Thoroughly enjoyed it.

I like the handling, and I think the engine sounds are excellent. The graphics don't quite sit right with me, there is just something about them that don't quite look right, but they're still pretty good.

As for the jaggies...I can only really notice them on the roof of the car and then I don't pay them any attention once the race is underway, but I'm using VGA which may help improve the image quality.

All in all, still worthy of a purchase for me :)
