Forza 5 Announced

No details, just confirmation as above. If one of them isn't the nurburgring I'll eat my controller.

maybe, but look at all the missing detail. The lighting yes maybe, but look at all the detail in the crowds, there are missing trees, thats not down to youtube. Pretty interesting.

I'm still sceptical of drivatar, although not because of Forza 5's implementation but because of the wider implications. If we truly are on the verge of cloud computing being able to dynamically adjust AI behaviour in games the effect is going to be much more profound. Forget reloading a checkpoint so you can ace a game section by knowing where enemies spawn or how they behave, now the behaviour is emergent there's no point, throw in a number of rotating spawn points and it's down to your reactions.

And then I'll put my tinfoil hat on and look much further down the line to the point where we've integrated our different AIs, effectively taught them how to beat us and bam.. Skynet..

Jus sayin..

i know youtube misses a bit but come on guys, lose the fanboyism. This is blatantly a massive downgrade. Shadows, missing environment details, polys, detail looks completely missing. No wonder they are saying it runs at 1080 60fps..looks like they had to cut a lot of detail from the game to get it there. Just saying, but these is pretty compelling screens.

The Jimmy Fallon demo is from five, I repeat five months ago. It'll be running the E3 build on Dev Kit hardware. It was a demo, it's not representative.

Why wouldnt dev kit hardware produce images that arent representative of the final product? I generally thought thats what they aimed to do

I appreciate optimisations will occur but that just makes the final product better...

It's not a valid comparison. It's alpha/demo code using different assets on non-production hardware. Might have been an AMD APU based laptop, could be an uber overclocked crossfired beast or even a prototype.

It's obvious they've changed the way that the Prague environment is lit *in the last five months* as the shadows etc are all falling in different places. There may well be other factors - FM4 used to dynamically change the detail levels depending on game mode and number and type of players. Play it in hotlap mode and it added detail due to not having the overheads of fripperies like AI or P2P network communications.

OK Im surprised that dev kits dont target the expected performance - Ive always assumed thats what they are there to do.

Interesting to hear that detail changes dependent on the game mode - cant tell what they are doing other than its offline and against AI. Perhaps one is playing more AI or something...

I think comparing how different YouTube videos look is always dangerous simply because we have no idea how compressed either video may be. I just can't wait till I get my hands on it in roughly 36 hours or so :)
