Forza Motorsport / 7

I'll switch my console to New Zealand and play a bit of this tonight, sounds pretty good from the thoughts in the video above.

Maple Valley looks nice in Performance RT mode on my 42" C2.

I've changed a few of the controller settings (clutch, dead zones etc..) to my ususal Forza ones, will play this properly after i've had some dinner. It feels strange in a car racing game after a month or so of Ride 5!

Interested to hear your initial opinions from your post dinner play @spaceman, off work unwell so considering picking up early access to get me through the next few days.

OK, I've played through the first 3 races in the builders cup intro, enjoying it so far, I think anyone that enjoyed previous Forza Motorsport games will be at home.

I'm playing on a pad, in cockpit view (FOV 65), Sim steering (tried normal, preferred sim) all assists off except for ABS (tried ABS off locking too much, might lower max deadzone). Race difficulty at Expert (Damage, fuel, tyre wear, race regs) with AI set on 7/8.

With those settings and starting around 9th or 10th my best race finish was a 3rd place, I finished the 3 race championship join 1st. My starter car (Scooby) is around level 18 now. I should do better now ive started playing with the tuning / parts I have available and have the game settings how I like them.

The only annoying thing I've found so far is being able to hear my own engine, I've set all audio except my car to 50% but it's still pretty quiet even with a race exhaust. It might just be the Scooby or cockpit view.

With the premium upgrade, I've started with 20 cars and 500k.

I think tomorrow I'll race some spec multiplayer to try to get a decent DR/SR before the masses start playing, so I'll hopefully be out of the banger racing group going forward.

I had a quick play with some of the tuning settings last night too, the tyre pressures were set very high on the Scooby (42 psi on the fronts!).

I dropped these to what i've used in all the Forza Motorsport games as a start, which improved the handling, the same with the diff and anti-roll bars when i'd leveled the car enough to unlock them. That got rid of the understeery feel (sim steering also improved this)

I quite like the Car leveling as it means i'll have to spend time in each car, so i'll choose cars i'm interested in driving. In Forza games since Motorsport 2, i've spent hours testing and tuning every car in my garage and shared the tunes.

This time round i'll probably share a few tunes at some point, but it doesn't look like there is any reward for doing so.

I've shared a few decals i made in previous Forza Motorsport games, just the small logos and safety stickers for race car paint jobs. It's a shame Forza doesn't let you import decals into the game, i shared a ton of those in GT7. I'll have to make a set of Doom Bar decals for my races cars from scratch at some point :)

I played some multiplayer last night, you have to do 3x intro races in a racing Civic to get the initial SR/DR rating, then the rest unlock.

The practice/qualifying/race structure is.great fun. Although you need to remember to qualify. I missed it in the first event.. the timer says practice finishes in X minutes, but it doesn't then move to qualifying, the race starts. You have to select qualifying (3 laps max) during the practice timer.

The racing was similar to the GT7, but the penalties were fair for collisions, close fair racing.

I got an A Safety rating, DR is just a number.

After that I did one event in GTX (old group 5 cars), which is one of my favourite classes with the Racing Capri, 512BB and other race cars from the period. Unfortunately I only had an old nascar type thing. Tyres went off on lap 5 (7 lap race) of Road America. I had to tiptoe around after a couple of spins, pitted and ended up 15th of about 20.

I've also switched to bumper cam, cockpit blocks too much for multiplayer racing. I might switch to normal steering as I had a couple of high speed tank slappers in the FWD Racing Civic on the limit and couldn't recover. Similar to previous FM games.

The proximity arrows are ok, but it would be much better having the radar like GT7 when racing in a pack.

TLDR: Multiplayer is the most fun of any console racer i've played .

Been playing this a bit and really looking it, pc version needs outmost, looks great on series x and handles well. Same as above all assists of on the lad otherwise feels mushy and unstable I find. Got my R34 skyline so I'm happy.

I've been doing a few timetrials/rivals and feel like I've had a decent lap only to see top people are 7 seconds ahead on a lap that's only 1:30...

HOW!?

I haven't done any hot lapping yet, but you can usually load in their ghost so you can see where you're losing time.

I might give A or B class on Catalunya a go soon as that's were i used to get a decent base tune for my cars. Working on leveling up my MR2 Turbo at the moment in the weekly career (track tour?) races.

I've been playing around with tuning, getting the hang of it in this now.

I've shared my tune for the #73 Civic that you use in the Multiplayer Qualifier Series if anyone wants to give it a go. FWD are my least favourite, but i've been sticking with it, lol (Tune name: Qualifier Series, Creator: Mashed). I use bumper cam, normal steering, manual, on a controller. Just had a pole and win at Laguna Seca Short.

I've been hot lapping in the stock BRZ Rivals at VIR (4 days left i think), i've got into the top 10% so far, more time is on the table though.

Not played loads but my early thoughts are the actual racing is very good. Multiplayer seems great, close clean racing, that may change come 10th when all the kids that just want to try the game free on GP.

Graphically it’s ok, can look a little average at times, but most part it looks very detailed, just the colour palette used looks a little washed out.

thanks for that. I played FM3 to death. I think it was that one were I started a racing league of some sort on here with other members. Can't remember if it took off or not.
can you create leagues or clubs or the like on it do you know?

Not sure, sorry. If there isn't Im sure stuff like that may get added, it looks a little bare bones in some parts to be fair, get the feeling more is to come.

Had a quick blast earlier whilst kids having breakfast. Only did the intro and the first practice with the Honda Civic. Seems to handle well, GFx looks great in performance mode. I really want a wheel and pedals now,.

If you haven't already, turn on the collision arrows for multiplayer (Gameplay/HUD settings screen), they help if you aren't using chase cam. No where near as good as the radar in GT7 though, having that would be ideal.

I've had some great racing online in that Civic.

treated myself to the Logitech G920 today plus a cheapish stand for it. Going to set it all up tonight fora blast. I tried the wheel and pedals earlier, sat on my dining chair in front of the TV with the wheel on my lap lol. That was really comfy.. NOT. Can't wait till I collect the stand.
Edit: out of interest, would a USB extension cable have any affect on the whole thing? Where I would be normally using it, the USB from the wheel to the xbox is too short, so i'm thinking of getting a Female to Male USB to extend the reach.,

I got it all set up last night. What a steep learning curve compared to the game pad. After an hour I got more used to it and googled some settings to try out for the wheel. Braking is a bit hit and miss with me with how the pedal feels/works. As I press down on it theres only a small amount of travel and it shows up on the telemetry around 25% and really have to press down to make it to 100% . I guess I just have to keep at it.
