Foxes

Apologies. I should have explained myself better, however I still consider foxes as vermin as do many others.
I believe the term "vermin" is very much over-used and usually as an excuse to slaughter foxes indiscriminately. Obviously I can't really comment on your local problem with them.

There aren't really any suitable fences which are guaranteed to keep foxes out and any which claim to do so cost an absolute fortune. Due to the layout of the fields in the area, a hedgerow is necessary to split them and as far as I know the hedgerows are protected by some sort of conservation law. I'm not too sure on the details but I think any suitable fences would be disallowed because they would block the hedgerow to other wildlife such as birds, badgers, rabbits etc.

Some farmers have tried the fox friendly methods but they are expensive and ineffective. There isn't really any other solutions left apart from killing the foxes.
If the fences are prohibited it sounds like you have no choice then but as you say, the foxes are being killed for a reason rather than sport, and that's at least justified. What sort of livestock are you losing to the foxes then?

Lucaly I DO have the ULTIMATE answer to the FOX issue. (yes I know thats an airsoft shotgun but you get my point)
Oh I certainly do get your point. It sounds like you'd rather shoot them probably because you enjoying doing so.

no, I don't
but neither do I enjoy what they leave behind.

if they ONLY killed what they ATE, and didn't just kill anything they can, for the hell of it it seems, then we wouldn't HAVE to kill them.
I don't go fox hunting, never have, never will, but there is but one solution that works, sadly

What if the foxes are being killed for a reason but I find it a good day out to hunt them and it then effectively becomes "sport"?

I assume the OP is in a residential area and shooting is not possible so here's a link to the lion dung:

Ah, now you see how preconceptions work? You display a huge image of a gun and I misconstrue your actions ;)

It's their instinct to kill all the animals probably to reduce the amount of noise and also because the fox will return at a later time to retrieve other kills in order to bury them to feed on at a later date.

As I said to Scuzi, killing them for utility is arguably one of necessity and while I believe there are possible alternatives, I can't necessarily speak for your particular situation.

Just to clarify my position. I'm stating that killing this fox simply for being noisy (the only complaint made so far) is IMO inappropriate and unnecessary (especially given the claimed location of the poster).

Killing a fox that poses a direct threat to your livestock, for example, is a different matter.

If you're fulfilling a purpose and you don't mind doing it, that's fine. If you enjoy killing animals, then it's up to you and your conscience.

Apparently, urinating around the area where the foxes are can work well too.

Agreed.

Call the RSPCA duders? Or just tempt it to come into your house and then you can tame it and turn it into a pet.

After all, it's GINGER!! Ginger people make great pets, so I would assume ginger animals would make good pets too!

Get a cat!

Although cat's are smaller than foxes they will NOT stand and fight a cat (unless her cubs are near in which case she'll try to chase the cat away!). Well, they may stand and fight the first time, but not the second!

I beg to differ, I went out into my garden in the early hours and found a dead cat that was ripped apart, a fox is the only thing that could have done it because we always get foxes in our garden. My suggestion is buy a .22 air rifle and shoot the thing.

Give the fox a beer :D
Put up a video camera and film it then post it up on here:p
Then once hes/shes past out on the lawn pick it up and remove him to the woods:D

Even if the problem could be resolved without doing so?

Remind me to use that logic more. "That person is annoying me, I'll just kill him..."

I have no problem with killing animals for a good reason, but if the problem can be easily resolved another way, surely that would be better?
not at all. I kill things for fun.
