Freesat HD

I have an unused satellite right next to my study / PC room. What would it take to get this new freesat on my PC, apart from the receiver at ~£150? I have an HD capable screen and graphics card, and a TV card with one digital and one analogue port (Compro T750).

you need a dvb-s2 card for £70 and bob's your uncle

u could buy a WinTV-NOVA-HD-S2 which will give u freesat including HD channels... i have one and it works great..

I realise that.
Thought HD was coming once terrestrial gets turned of, on freeview?

HD freeview will be a lot cheaper I imagine than freesat due to mass production.

Once analogue has been turned off there will still only be enough room for four HD channels on Freeview. BBC are getting one and the other three will be auctioned off.

You still have to buy a new recoder though.

I’m a bit confused by this – Sky have had a “freesat” service for years, you have to pay around £15 one off for a card then using any old dish and Sky box you can get lots of channels, virtually the same lot as you get on Freeview.

What’s the difference with this new service from BBC? Is it exactly the same as freesat from Sky but with the addition of HD channels? Currently if you just have an old Sky box and dish (without card) you get almost everything, but not C4 or five. Does this freesat from BBC mean C4 and five can be received on an old Sky box/dish without the £15 card?

Hmm... So lets get this right, I can just throw my old Sky SD box out, use my existing sky dish and plug in a new freesat HD box and it'll just work?

That's it? No subscription fee sounds great, as I want HD as I've now got a HD TV but wasn't about to pay Sky for HD, as its way too expensive for what I wanted..

This to me sounds a done deal if all I've got to do is buy a new HD box and plug it onto my existing sky dish.......

......excellent news if so.:)

edit -ok website freesat.co.uk says this -

If your home already has a satellite dish, you may be able to use it to receive freesat, but please check in-store for details.

Cool, looks like its finally time to say bye byeee to Sky... Sky was all I could get no freeview in my area, and I would love to boot the sky supplied system out the door..!! lol

i wonder if the freesat box has vga or component out? would be nice to have one connected to my pc 24" screen.

If not then downstairs in the playroom 32" samsung :D

...and if you're not allowed a dish on your house then you're screwed when it comes to HD television broadcasts. Makes me wonder why the hell I invested in a decent HDTV in the first place. Guess I'll have to grab myself a PS3 and start buying Blu-Ray movies now.

I'm guessing Vista MCE doesn't support decoding or displaying of HD via DVB-S2 cards yet does it?
I run Vista MCE with a twin tuner DVB-T card at the moment and I have my Sky-HD box for when I want to watch HD.
I'd love to get it all integrated in to the one solution.

Will be tempted by this - can wait it out for now and see what happens when the first Freeview HD boxes start appearing - although being in London I can't make use of Freeview HD until 2012 anyways !

By the time I have my own place this might be a very real option :)

I don't think they'll start HD on freeview in any location until the analogue switch off is completed everywhere...

Unlucky for Sky people I've just seen that ITV HD is going to be a FreeSat exclusive, not available for Sky HD viewers.
