Freesat HD

Of what are HD? 1/2?

Have you seen the BBCHD tv guide for today?

yes but think of future expansion. F1 is going back to bbc. I would be very surprised if that wont be in HD. Other channels will follow if freesat takes of. Which by the looks of it it will. I will certainly look into it.

I'm still unclear about this - can an old Sky box pick up the new BBC Freesat channels, for example Channel 4? Currently you need a £20 one of fee Freesat viewing card to get Channel 4.

As far as I know, Channel 4, More4 and E4 all went free-to-air today, so should be viewable on Sky without a subscription.

I'll check this evening at home though :)

That is true but so is Sky’s HD service, I suppose it’s a case of seeing where it goes.

I will be going halfs on the DTR bundle with my dad, HD telly in my own room get in!

All i need now is the HD telly or even a tv itself :D

well if iTV's HD coverage is anything like its SD coverage for sport then no thank you. I'll stick with my SkyHD with full package which sky seems to have forgot to change me for :)

TBH I think ITV are shooting themselves in the foot, its going to be ITV Digital Mark2. Why would ITV make their only HD channel not avaliable to the biggest possible audiance as at the end of the day ITV make most of their money from adverts.

Most normal people intrested in HD will already have a SKyHD box so why not tap this market that already exists? nutters.

I'll give it 6 months before it goes **** up or they start showing on sky.

Il wait and see what PVR boxes come out, and how things progress.

Can't get it anyway as no dishes allowed here, o well.

The problem with SkyHD is really the cost. You need to buy the full Sky package including Sports and Movies to really get the most of the HD experience and that costs A LOT. Going by the Sky website, the full package including the HD sub works out at £55 p/m. That is a lot of money.

I currently pay i think its £34 for everything apart from Movies. Its just too expensive to get the full thing. Besides, i would much rather pay for a monthly rental sub and get all the Full HD Blu-Rays i want than pay for Sky Movies and its dire selection at times +HD sub.

How can it go **** up? It's free and they haven't paid over the odds for the rights to any second rate sports. I'd also be surprised if it didn't appear on sky at some point, but not for the same reasons.

ONDigital/ITV Digital ring a bell? ;) Not saying it will end up like this but remember ITV don’t seem to manage these types of services well.

that was subscription based

a lot ppl are missing the point

The BBC is behind this i.e. license fee money is being spent to make this work. the reason they are backing this is because thereisnt enough bandwidth for "freeview" to go HD.

these channels aren't encrypted either

BBCHD, (and eventually ITVHD, CH4HD, FIVEHD) and all you need is a sky dish and a box costing £100

all the best of british TV in HD

Yep, I can now pick up E4, E4+1, More4, More4+1, Film4 and Film4+1 all on my Sky box, without subscription.

I do have an old viewing card in there though, but I don't think that matters for these.
