I think we need more information - its would be unusual for a cable to be in the wrong place and only cause an issue after 18 months unless the cable was for instance restricting the movement of a fan that caused excess heat damage over time and so on.
The problem I'm seeing is that so far there isn't enough evidence that it was a build fault originally and not something that was possibly end user error* or accidental damage i.e. in transit, as I said before if you can prove it was damage caused by a build fault in the first place your much more likely to get it fixed by OcUK - just because another company says it was a build fault doesn't on its own prove anything unless the evidence they used to come to that conclusion backs it up which OcUK would need to see for themselves.
* Not saying it is end user error but if the problem was questionably of that nature you'd have a hard time getting any company to sort it outside of warranty.
