Froch vs Groves

I enjoyed the fight. Groves won me over and I do feel he was not treated fairly by the referee. I am not sure standing 8 counts are permitted now but I reckon that it was a premature stoppage. Groves has that "hang Dog" look about him which probably gave a slightly false impression as to how hurt he was. Even if you look at him as Froch goes down in round one the lad looks puffy eyed.

Froch should also have been docked a point. He was using all the old pro tricks to unsettle Groves. However Groves did get over confident and in many ways let the champion back into the contest when he started showboating. A more experienced fighter would have realised he was 5 rounds up and would have boxed defensively to close out the fight.

I can't see Froch wanting a rematch. I think he will have his eye on one more fight and the obvious candidate is Andre Ward although given his display last night there seems very little hope of a result against the american. He was outclasses the last time and Ward has improved. Unless the Ward fight cant happen I see no reason for a Groves rematch unless the money is as good as Froch can get for one last fight.

I was remembering back to Eubank/Benn last night. Benn was an excting fighter but a vulnerable one. He was often at his most dangerous when he was hurt. A referee would never have stopped him the way Groves was. Perhaps Groves should have taken a knee but maybe he just wasnt that hurt. I am pleased both fighters are healthy and I will watch Groves career with interest. Ironically he may have a better chance of the Ward fight now than Froch.

Was a great fight - nice to see a fight where the challenger actually seemed like they wanted the win and went in there putting it on the line - way too many fights have been utterly boring i.e. chavez v mayweather where the challenger realises they won't make a statement in the opening rounds and just closes down to try and survive 12 rounds with the champ :|

TBH though Froch didn't look well - core strength seemed depleted, attention was coming and going almost looked like someone recovering from flu at times.

Can see why ref stopped it though Froch was just handing out blows to the back of the head, should have taken him aside and warned him rather than taking Groves out of the danger though. (EDIT: Not really sure what the ref should have done there he couldn't really have stopped the fight in Groves favor at that point neither could he really let it go on with Froch so willing to go for the back of the head).

Wow just caught some of the highlights of this match and what an utter utter fool the ref was to stop the match and give the win to Froch.

Geezus i hope that ref never gets to referee another boxing match, Groves had Froch more or less and unless he was knocked out.

What a terrible way to finish off what was potentially a great boxing match :/

Wasn't a great decision but on rewatching the highlights I can sort of understand why he called it - despite being asked a couple of times to keep it clean I believe Froch was increasingly getting desperate and resorting more and more to dirty play - he could have pulled them apart again at that point given Froch a warning/deduction but if Froch had ignored him again and continued going for the back of the head and something bad had happened the ref would have been even more in trouble. Froch definitely didn't walk out of there a winner though.

Another highlight of the night was how Prince Naseem Hamed now looks like he works in a chippy :D

Still full of **** though.

Seeing as the rematch is next week ..

Did anyone watch the 'Gloves are off' on Sky last night? You could tell Froch was getting under Groves skin with this more 'humble' approach to the media. His whole act seems fake to me though.

Last time Froch was totally dismissive of Groves whereas now he's giving credit for the last fight and I think it's irritating Groves the fact he doesn't seem to be getting much out of him!

Should be a good fight.

Laughed at that bit where when they shook hands Groves pulled Froch's hand towards him then Froch pulled back and Groves flew over the table was like something from a school yard!! :D

I think it'll be Froch winning again but anything could happen really as Carl is on the decline imo. Gonna be a good fight either way.

Can't wait for this... Groves won me over in the 1st fight with his slick boxing but he certainly faded towards the end and clearly wasn't able to keep it up for the whole 12 rounds. Carl can't have many more fights in him so perhaps it would be best for the division if Groves was able to take the win and move on to challenge Ward.

That said, it would be nice to see Carl finish his fantastic career on a high so don't really mind who wins either way as long as the controversy of the first fight isn't repeated.

Just to rub it in Groves' face would be fun to see Froch win, retire then hand him the belt being nice and condescending and giving him the "chance" to challenge for a title.

Think Groves' head would explode in rage :D

This would be great, watching The Gloves are Off shows how much Froch is getting Groves annoyed. Froch will win this regardless, he went in all cocky last time and won't make the same mistake.

Groves is such a whiney little *****, I really hope Froch does a number on him. A first round stoppage would be brilliant just to see Groves try and come up with an excuse for that, but I'd like to see him just batter him over 6 or 7 rounds
