I enjoyed the fight. Groves won me over and I do feel he was not treated fairly by the referee. I am not sure standing 8 counts are permitted now but I reckon that it was a premature stoppage. Groves has that "hang Dog" look about him which probably gave a slightly false impression as to how hurt he was. Even if you look at him as Froch goes down in round one the lad looks puffy eyed.
Froch should also have been docked a point. He was using all the old pro tricks to unsettle Groves. However Groves did get over confident and in many ways let the champion back into the contest when he started showboating. A more experienced fighter would have realised he was 5 rounds up and would have boxed defensively to close out the fight.
I can't see Froch wanting a rematch. I think he will have his eye on one more fight and the obvious candidate is Andre Ward although given his display last night there seems very little hope of a result against the american. He was outclasses the last time and Ward has improved. Unless the Ward fight cant happen I see no reason for a Groves rematch unless the money is as good as Froch can get for one last fight.
I was remembering back to Eubank/Benn last night. Benn was an excting fighter but a vulnerable one. He was often at his most dangerous when he was hurt. A referee would never have stopped him the way Groves was. Perhaps Groves should have taken a knee but maybe he just wasnt that hurt. I am pleased both fighters are healthy and I will watch Groves career with interest. Ironically he may have a better chance of the Ward fight now than Froch.
