FTL - Faster than Light, Space Rogue - ( INDIE )

Laser weapons and improved doors are a winner with this.

Took me 130hrs just to get all the ships. The randomness of the encounters is annoying when you rely on a dice to unlock things :(

Enemies boarding my ship are seriously kicked my ass. Only managed to kill one boarding party so far, my crew are a bunch of pure wimps!

Yeah get it through their site, its usually cheaper and you get a steam key anyway.

Also, upgrade the doors and vent the oxygen!

I had this, sent in 3 of my men and just managed to beat them with low health, then my men died from lack of O2

Gah, I thought this sounded good, bought it from that cheap link for £3-something and was quite looking forward to it.

But I'm now a bit miffed that I find from this thread that it's a roguelike...

Whilst I understand some people like roguelike elements to games and the difficulty and tension they bring, I myself have no interest in them. I just don't want to have to play repeatedly through already-completed sections/levels just because of making a mistake at some point.

TBH, I doubt I'll even install this now and it's really put me off. Is it as bad as I'm fearing in this respect?

I would say it's probably not for you.

It's all about playing over and over to see if you can beat what you managed the first time. The aim isn't really to "complete" the game so much as challenge yourself...

You can get unlocks and such to make it different as you continue trying, but that's about it.

For me it's awesome! You just can't take it seriously or you'll have a terrible time!

Ah yeah, it doesn't sound like it would be for me, really. I never find myself interested in games with those types of mechanic/outcomes.

Oh well, thanks for the clarification. It does save me bothering to download and install it.

If only there was a way to gift unused games on Steam.

I would say give it a go anyway. I don't like games where you have to do the same levels over and over but each play through of this is different. Plus there are ships to unlock so that further opens up each game as playing in a different ship changes the gameplay.

As has been said, you end up replaying a lot of it. However, there are different encounters each time (as it's all semi-randomly generated) so you're not exactly replaying the same content over and over.
