FTL - Faster than Light, Space Rogue - ( INDIE )

As has been said, you end up replaying a lot of it. However, there are different encounters each time (as it's all semi-randomly generated) so you're not exactly replaying the same content over and over.

This ^, I played for 2 hours yesterday, died about I dunno, 7 times? and the 'Jump map' was different every time and I even had a nebula with 5 points of interest in the first sector

Without reading all 10 pages in the thread, has anyone posted that they've actually beaten the game yet? And in which ship do you stand the best chance of doing so?

Ah right, I guess that is a bit different than simply replaying over already-completed sections. It does make is sound marginally more interesting.

Still not sure I like the relatively goal-less nature of it in terms of only having the impetus to progress as far as you can before death, but it does make me more disposed to try it, especially as it's only a 300MB download. Hmmm...

You have a goal - get to the end and beat the boss :) I've not completed it in normal mode (but many have) but in easy (which really should be called 'normal' - normal should be called hard imo) I've completed it a good number of times.

Ahhh... okay, maybe I got a bit too discombobulated by the whole rougelike description. Maybe I will give this a go after all.

Thanks to everyone who bothered to help enlighten me about this game...

it really is good game, and a good time waster. i would recockomend it hands down.

i keep playing and the game still surprises me wit its curve balls and rules.
as for gaols?? we'll the way i see it is their are 6 goals :
1) survive
2) beat the game on easy and normal
3) unlock all the ships (this may been multi play throughs and multi quests)
4) unlock the alternative ship layouts (each ship has three unique gaols, 2 have to be met to unlock the alternaative version)
5) complete the game achievements (around 25 of them)
6) compete with your freinds for highest scores

also you have to plan your route some times and make judgement calls on weather a route is worth it on the galatic map as well as the sector map, on more than one occasion i've found a dead end... so its worth having the jump lines enabled so you can see what stars are connected to each other.

did i mention i hate nebula?? assult squads of 6 dudes nocking on my door isn't much fun especially when i haven't upgrded the door system!! "mostly they like to come at night, mostly" ..... "fall back, fall back, fall back to medicall!!!!"

Managed to kill the first part of it then died on the second, is there anyway to repair in between? The drones absolutely hammer my ship

I've completed it 21 times, the missus 26 times. On easy. She's done it once on Normal :p

Tbh, Easy and Normal are unfair descriptions, it's Easy and Impossible!

You don't need to repair if you don't take damage ;)

Get your shields upgraded as high as you can, have a Defense One drone to shoot down incoming boarding drones, and for the drone overload, use Cloak on one power bar only - this way, it has time to recharge between overloads. Easy peasy :p

I'll try but its so hard trying to pick between upgrades and weapons :(

Picked this up a few days ago to give me something I wanted to play that would actually run on this laptop while I'm at my parents house.

Sticking to Easy mostly so I can unlock a few things and get use to it. Just done a brilliant run on the 2nd layout Zoltan Cruiser. By about halfway I was running the 2 starting Ion Blasters with 2 Fire Beams. Leading to this on just about every ship I came across:

Could just about handle ships with 3 shields but luckily I came across some drone stuff and went into the last sector with full shields, 48% evade, a full cloak and 2 anti-ship mk1 drones. Did quite well against the Flagship after all and beat it with very little damage taken on the first 2 encounters and a bit of trouble with the 3rd but still over 50% left when I beat it.

Bit of a thread revival but only just got round to playing this.

I love it :D I can see the nice new £650 PC i have coming tomorrow being wasted as this is going to have me hooked for a while :D
