Fuel price discussion thread (was ‘chaos’)

Had to fill up at Sainsburys this morning, premium was 185.9. Couldn't even fill the tank as pay at pump limited me to £99 :(

Russia basically or Brexit. Ignore record profits that just a coincidence.

Is it true that petrol is more expensive to produce due to it needing more refining than diesel?

Petrol is slightly cheaper to make than diesel but due to there being a bigger demand for diesel than petrol, diesel is more money. Supply and demand etc

Thats what I read the other day.

I was joking. When I was in Crete petrol was more expensive than diesel, in this country diesel was about 15 p more expensive than petrol at the same time.

Capacity would make sense if it was actually hard to get hold of fuel, it’s not we have plenty they just want to make more money.

Crete taxes diesel much less than petrol as you are only allowed to own a diesel vehicle if you are a business. Much more sensible way of doing thing IMO. That way you can help out business by lowering the duty on just diesel without it affecting none business people.

I only know this when my in laws immigrated to crete and took their diesel car with them.

Diesel is affected by seasons as well, tends to go up in Winter as there's more demand for similar products used to heat homes.

manage to fill up yesterday at £172.9 for unleaded. Station had no fuel today when I drove past. I expect they are waiting for a delivery and I bet it wont be £172.9 anymore.

So again it’s just profiteering
You know there's different profit margins on just about everything don't you? Two different lines of tomato for example will have a different profit margin.
Unless they're ripping the arse out of it I think it's a little off to be crying profiteering.

It's something I never, ever, ever thought would be an annoyance but it really is super annoying lol.

You call it whatever you want explain however you want

You can't just call it what you want when those terms have defined meanings. "profiteering" means making an excessive or unfair profit. 8% markup before costs is not excessive or unfair.

Again I think we’re getting confused. Supply chain is full of profiteering the bbc article said the refineries are making money hand over fist, the il companies are making so much money they don’t what to do with it.

Four courts may well be at the bottom end of it and maybe it’s a bit of a stretch but too many are making too much money due to circumstances.

Vehicle fuel is a luxury for you/most people.

If you don't like it, stop whining and do something about it. Bike shops this way : -> https://www.wiggle.co.uk/bikes (they make profits too :p )

Lol who said I’m whining I don’t pay for fuel I have a fuel card and company credit card. I work in the motor trade though so our increased cost will eventually be passed on to you ;)

Ok, I understand.
You did specifically say retailers, but if you meant somethign else we'll leave it at that :)

Why are retailers profiteering off of diesel.

Sorry let me be a little more specific. I’m a garage equipment engineer which means if your car enters a garage then either myself or the many other garage equipment engineers are directly or indirectly involved. You need garage equipment to get it Mot’d, serviced or many other things, garages cannot exist without garage equipment so and so forth.
