Fuel price discussion thread (was ‘chaos’)

Got to fill up later for a trip, half a tank. Not overly looking forward to the price but it will only get worse.

Sorry if this has been explained somewhere earlier in the thread, but can someone please explain why prices are so ******* high?
It can't just be due to the price of oil?

Correct. Everyone always presents the margin over the wholesale price of petrol/diesel. The forecourts aren't really at fault. If I was BP, Shell etc. I'd charge my forecourts an inflated wholesale price and then claim they aren't marking it up very much over the wholesale price.

Basically what Centrica was doing with British Gas until the price cap came in. They would claim that British Gas is making 2% profit whilst magically Centrica raked in billions in profit.

Except the stations aren't owned by BP, she'll etc they are franchised.

That changes things how? Are they not supplied by BP or Shell?
As in your argument is wrong. Because centrica and BG are the same company basically. If you want to claim oil companies are inflating the wholesale price fine, but it has nothing to do with retailers.

Ofc it matters if BP and Shell stations aren't necessarily able to just go source the cheapest petrol/diesel, just like British Gas can't change its supplier from Centrica.

We also dont get to see the exact financial arrangement of franchises.

It all comes from the same refineries, it's not like there is an independent out there supplying fuels cheaper than the big names.

So regardless of how it’s dressed up ultimately players want to make more money at pretty much every step.

Ofcourse.

Someone in the chain is making a massive amount more money out of this than they used too.

The world didn't suddenly say to humans that is putting the price up or make it harder to extract.

It's just our stupid pyramid scheme global economy that serves to make the rich richer.

182.7 for diesel at Morrisons, Sainsburys a 100 meters away was 188.7. Unusual as they are normally cheaper, I assume they had a more recent delivery.

Just been forwarded this link, sorry I know it the daily fail. £2.49 for diesel, if the rest of the country was to follow along this line, i can see some people saying they can’t afford to go to work.

Scalping surely. I'm only a few miles south of Chelsea and I "only" paid 1.99 for Shell VPower Diesel last Sunday.

Paid £1.87 for Momentum yesterday, down in Kent. Try not to look at the overall cost, too painful. I prefer the shock of checking my credit card at the end of the month and going WTF have I spent all that on......oh fuel.
