Fuel price discussion thread (was ‘chaos’)

Filled up momentum 99 at 1.779 two days ago. Now it’s at 1.869. Good times.
When I was a kid, a good day out was pack up the motor with a picnic and set off early just driving. The destination was not important, the journey was as we three kids in the back played, looked out of the windows. Dad smoking a cigar would wind his down to rest his elbow outside,
Putting lots of miles on the car until we found a nice spot with a view to spread the tablecloth. Later as it was getting dark and we had burnt a good three quarters of a tank of fuel we arrived home. Dad said I will have to fill up again tomorrow, I don't know where all the petrol goes.

Historic times, the scenic run out may be dead.

I remember those days well. Really was the golden era for my age in the early 90s.

Luckily as I’m somewhat wfh the car hasn’t really a requirement bar the usually getaway around the country as and when.

Still, I’m evaluating my choice of purchase going away from a hybrid to a performance petrol, but thought may as well enjoy it whilst I can.

Back in the day when the traffic allowed. We had a volvo 144 and the sound of the whistle of the radio areal over 40 mph will never leave me!

Those of you quoting Vpower diesel prices, is that wha thou are actually buying or are you just picking that one because it’s the most expensive?

If you are buying it….

I was quite happy to pay 'only' 182.7 last night. What a world. I doubt it will ever drop much in future, no matter what happens in the world. Like energy prices this is the new normal.
My local garage is about 204 pl now, but I've not bought fuel there for years. Luckily now I've retired I don't do much mileage, bar the occasional trip to London or Scotland. I think the next car could well be electric.

I meant to add - I had a quick look at electric cars within 100 miles of me for sale to see if switching to electric is viable (given some people think "well if you don't want to pay so much for fuel, you should go electric")

The cheapest is a Renault Zoe/Nissan Leaf, around 7 years old - £7,500.

There is no way the poorer section of society can afford that even if they could get a loan

Zoe would almost certainly have a battery lease at that price as well at £50-£100 a month.

You're basically not going to get a 'cheap' EV for a long time as there isn't enough of them being made to satisfy demand now and the more people that decide they've had enough of paying x amount for fuel and going electric will just keep the price high for the foreseeable.

When I went out today, I was looking at the price of fuel as I went past each fuel station. All the big names had diesel over 1.90 and petrol around 1.87. The supermarkets had diesel just below 1.90 and petrol around 1.85.
Must admit I have started to think about EV’s a bit more, recently.

Once we are all on electric, it will be the same scenario I presume, sky rocketing prices to charge your vehicle, how much is it currently?

1. What panic buying.
2. The EVs that generally have long waiting lists due to component shortages and supply chain issues?

I only waited three month for my EV so it's what date you order your car! They are put in sales slots and what model/trim your waiting for.
