Fuel price discussion thread (was ‘chaos’)

I am actually noticing people sitting more at 50MPH on the main roads and 60 on the duals on the way to work lately compared to the last 3 years - mostly driving to the commercial vehicle speed limits I'm noticing a lot less people rapidly closing and sitting on my tail. Though I had an annoying tailgater couple of days ago - absolutely no excuse for it - in the end they got the hint and overtook me (I think they were trying to "hyper mile" in my slipstream).

Sensible but I’d rather spoon my own eyeballs out. I drive our car very little but I love giving it a little bit when I do.
I had my days of ragging sports cars around when I was younger, not fussed anymore, just want to get places. Roads are too busy or in too bad a state to enjoy these days anyway. Although very occasionally I do boot the Alphard off the lights and surprise people, the V6 does sound great

I've found driving slower as I've got older has made very little difference to journey times, and I get to my destination a lot less stressed. The fact that it saves fuel as well is a plus.
I just let all the idiots overtake if they want to, I usually find them just in front of me at the next set of lights anyway. :p

Yeah I’m somewhere in between the 2 extremes these days. Not quite fearless and foolish, I keep it mostly legal, but the thought of sitting at 52mph on the motorway leaves me empty and cold inside. I’d rather give up driving I think.

I used to get annoyed by someone in front driving 5mph below the limit on a country road....

Now I get annoyed if someone in front makes me touch the brake pedal :p

This is so true, life is too short to be in a hurry to save 5-10 mins and end up dead in a ditch.

I'd rather drive at a super relaxed speed and enjoy the journey rather than stressing about doing 'some MPH' below the speed limit.

Ive modulated my speed, i generally stick between 60 and 70mph with no harsh acceleration/braking. I couldnt do the 52mph thing though. That would drive me batty.

Out of my way grandad! :@ :P

I just laugh when I pull up next to them at the next set of lights whilst they stare straight ahead and pretend I'm not there. :p

It's even funnier if you pull away from them faster and get in front, I do this in my "totally dull boring and unexciting" Hyundai BEV, and they are behind you again. :p

I barely go over 65mph now. 60-65 on motorways, typically 55-60 on NSL dual carriageways etc. Makes a lovely difference to the battery usage (we're talking adding around 50 miles of range at under 65mph vs 70), and adds only a few minutes per journey so...

Glad to see that I am not the only one who takes things easy now. It is good to know that you are faster at the lights than anything else though...

The funniest thing to do is to sit next to someone at the lights, give it a few revs, glance over a couple of times and proceed to watch them goon it off the lights :D

Just not seeing any worthwhile difference with my truck - tried doing the same journey several times firstly making an effort to be fuel efficient with keeping momentum up where possible, avoiding accelerating heavily, etc. then tried driving as normal but at the kind of speeds talked about as being more fuel efficient, then just drove as normal:

Slight gain from trying to be ultra fuel efficient but way too much effort for the returns and like 1 pixel difference between driving a bit slower and driving at normal speeds.

(Top line 30MPG, second line 15)

The last time I tired it in my car it worked out to about 3mpg difference at most, I'll just continue to drive as normal.

I'm still driving the same, as I'm not penny pinching, and I onlt get 20mpg
