Fuel price discussion thread (was ‘chaos’)

My village garage announced they had taken delivery of new stock before the price increase so happy to announce their prices are £1.59 all week for super unleaded. I went and filled all my cars up and all my petrol cans at the weekend. Will be a long time again before I pay £1.59 for super unleaded.

I saw a services on the M6 offering diesel for 173.9/l a few weeks ago, they must be up to £2 by now.
I drove past a BP on a motorway.
£184.9

And a lorry was filling up, and few cars.

Like seriously? How do you not keep an eye on your fuel? Enough so that you end up forced to use a motorway services

The truck and probably half the cars will have a fuel card or be reimbursed by their employer. They therefore don’t really care what price it is.

Probably on a fuel card, so they don't care...

Depending on the company/use but it is heavily discouraged where I work to use the fuel cards at service stations, etc. even potentially a disciplinary.

For some people though money might not be so tight convenience trumps the additional cost or they just don't care.

Yeah i remember years ago my old man had one for the company car and they all used to fill up with the premium stuff to get points (Nectar/Tesco clubcard etc), it didn't take the company long to clamp down on "spending unnecessarily".

If they buy a load at a price, can they put it up just like that? What extra costs are they incurring they need to put it up? Is it the tax?

Supply/demand? They can charge whatever they like, they don't need to justify it. If they charge too much, people will go elsewhere.

Half a tank but need to fill up for a trip so will have to do it sooner than planned by the looks of things.

I still remember when petrol pretty much doubled in price way back when, from around 35p a gallon to around 70p the next day!

It triggered a spate of scum stealing petrol from cars, wonder if the same is going to happen again.

We breathe the same air as people who pay monthly for car insurance and HP second hand cars at astronomical rates. They probably see it as an extra fiver or whatever, so what. Just two cups of coffee!1
