Fuel up/down again

For all but the very young drivers, the total cost of motoring has fallen a lot in real terms over the last 14 years though. The biggest impact is that cars themselves are much cheaper.

BP Ultimate Diesel down the road from me is now £1.59 .... Time to start using the Shell garage again. Putting 75l into the tank over the weekend was very painful.

£1.59?! that's a good 5p a litre more than here in London. Is there any difference between vpower diesel and bp ultimate?

BP price them self a good 5p/l more than every garage around not just my local one
hell there are 2 of them in next town on same road half a mile down from each other and 1 is 2p more than other just doesn't compute.

Every BP I've ever seen is 2-3p more than anywhere else locally as a minimum, sometimes more. I haven't bought petrol at a BP in over a decade. I spoke to someone who worked for BP at work once and she tried to say their petrol was better than anyone else's which is why it was more expensive. I nearly laughed.

From the budget talk atm:

September's increase in fuel duty is cancelled. Petrol will be 13p a litre cheaper than if he had not frozen the duty over the last two years, he says.

Its better than supermarket stuff

BP near me in south Sheffield is either the 1p more expensive than Morrisons down the road or the same price. 135.9 yesterday for unleaded.

BP sell fuel only, Supermarkets sell fuel and food.

Supermarkets sell things as loss leaders / limited profit to get punters in, something BP can't do.

The public have no idea what additives are in each fuel.

Isn't BP's fuel (or super at least) ethanol free? so effectively has a better calorific value than most competitors fuel, or something like that.

But Shell don't seem to be so consistently more expensive than everyone else in the same way that BP are.

I can count on one hand the number of times I've ever filled my car at BP. Simply because they are always, IME, noticeably more expensive than everywhere else.

I hate it when the government say this. It's guff.
My loaf of bread is 50p cheaper than if the shop had decided to charge 50p more for it.

Next time I sell a car I'm going to tell the buyer that they're getting a bargain as the car is £2000 cheaper than if I had charged £2000 more for it.

Yep, typical comment to make it seem like they're doing you a favour.

Not like they aren't already screwing everyone by putting 70% tax on fuel.

Waitrose food costs more than ASDA too

found this, no idea why South West of England is different
BP Ethanol added at 5% to unleaded petrol at all sites across the UK. BP Ultimate (super unleaded) does not have Ethanol added, except in the South West of England.
Esso Ethanol is added at 5% to unleaded petrol at most sites in the UK. Esso Super Unleaded petrol does not contain Ethanol, except in the South West of England (Devon & Cornwall)
Shell Shell has repeatedly refused to answer the question. It is therefore an assumption only, that all Shell petrol should be considered to contain 5% Ethanol.
Texaco Ethanol is added at 5% to unleaded petrol. Texaco Super Unleaded petrol does not contain Ethanol.
Total Ethanol is not added to any Total fuel (including standard unleaded petrol). Except in the North West and South East of England.
