Fuel up/down again

I vote we bring back gallons, average price increases used to be 2p per gallon & now it's per litre so they can bung on the equivalent of 10p a gallon & hope nobody notices

Yup - 42l fuel tank - and that's a long range one! Standard tanks are only 25l.

My other two cars (2.9l V6 Cosworth and 4l V8 Lexus) do take a bit more I admit :D

My A6 has an 80l tank at £1.48 that's £118.00 I'm Saving around £16 a tank.

Premium diesel being used.

My local Shell is down to 110.9 now. There's a Tesco just around the corner so this one always seem to drop quicker than others to keep up the competition. It seems to be dropping about 3-4p a week at the moment.
 
Just filled with diesel at the local Shell station to me in Nottingham. 119.9, gone down a far chunk since I last filled around 3-4 weeks ago at 126.9.

This doesn't make sense to me.

ASDA is the cheapest supermarket out of the big four. If he had said that he buys everything that Tesco to take advantage of their FuelSave offer, then yes, I would agree with you. Buying crap quality chicken breasts at £10/kg instead of £6/kg at a local butcher is not a great way to save money, FuelSave or not.

On the other hand, what does buying groceries have to do with driving past an ASDA and simply filling up with their fuel?
 
It's a loss leader, it's to get people to go to their store rather than Tesco or Morrisons or who ever, if you're just stopping for fuel then you just get cheap fuel. Shell and the like don't have supermarkets to get you into, they can't afford to sell the fuel for no margin or even less.
 
Tesco clubcard fuel promotions are a more extreme case in point. They give you money off the fuel if you spend so much in the shop. More direct link there of course, but it works all round.

I get that. What I don't get is why he mentioned groceries?

XeNoN89 already mentioned that his Shell sells petrol at 110.9p/l which is almost in line with ASDA. I don't think LeeUK is entirely wrong since the Shells near me are also more expensive than the Esso garages.

Because the fuel cost is subsidised by the cost of the groceries.
