Fuel up/down again

Filled for 109.9p yesterday, trip computer showed 12 miles left and I was only able to fit £65 in. It's nice when the prices drop so much that you actually see a difference when filling up (normally £80 odd)

I have 12p off a litre for Tesco fuel save this month and the Tesco near me has petrol at 112.9 at the moment. Hopefully in the next week or two i might pay under £1 a litre for my next fill up!

Oh the joy. :P

Prices in Scotland and around Edinburgh seem to have stabilised at most branded stations that don't have a Supermarket within a mile or so. Steady at around 109.9. Asda currently 107.9 but they don't sell the good stuff.

First fill at less than £1/litre this morning, purchased 46.02L for £45.12 thanks to the ongoing Amex BP offer.

98ppl

Amazing to think that sounds cheap! Still more than double the cost when I first stated driving...filing up for £25 was a winner!

How long ago was that though? :p

I passed my test in 2002, when petrol was around 75ppl, which is £1.06 inflation adjusted in 2013 (BoE only have indices up to 2013).

So actually, with these latest price drops, fuel is around the same price as it was in 2002, thats not too bad....

Our household runs an 05 Fabia 1.9TDI. Just coming upto 130,000 miles and the engine itself hasn't had any repair work done since new bar the scheduled servicing.

It's a solid unit, but very unrewarding to drive.

As our taxi driving regular 233 will undoubtedly confirm, private use is very different to taxi use.

Vw group 1.9 tdi engines are great put near 1/2 million miles on one in an a4 skoda. Thoroughly reliable lumps like the peugeot xud engines found in the old taxi favourite the 406

The newer 1.6 is a pig of an engine friend of mine has North of a hundred 1.6 skodas oldest of which is 2 yr old absolutely hates them due to the reliability problems. On a whole mainly jiggly faults dpf and egr problems which is a combination of the way drivers treat rental cars poor fuels and urban miles

Modern emission regs are to blame for a lot of problems but as a whole the vw 1.6 tdi is a dog

The peugeot 1.6 hdi also found in a lot of fords is a good workhorse lump although very picky about getting the right oils local company has a fleet of hdi berlingos and although the French build quality is laughable the engines are all good and any issues seem to be down to incorrect maintenance

I thought is was a while (read: a few days) since Jez has reminded us that he has a good Amex offer (which is closed to new entrants). Good job he's reminded us today. :)

To be fair it's no more tedious than the plethora of other wonderfully thrilling 'I just filled my car up' posts and marginally less tedious than the 'I just filled my car up' posts from people living overseas :p

I filled up the other day, $2.59 for 93 premium. Normal unleaded is down to $2.08 in most stations and $1.99 if you can find them.

You love my updates... don't deny it.
