must suck running out and having to push it to the petrol stationI just fill mine when its empty..
But in fairness both cars are mapped for RON 98/99 which only Vpower and Tesco 99 meet the grade, otherwise its a case of knock knock.![]()

I fill up 6 gallons in when the fuel light come on.
Then when the fuel light comes on again, normally in around 2 weeks, I can easily work out the MPG.
Miles/6. Just another way off checking the engine is behaving as it should.
Fuel light in my focus comes on when the range reaches 50 miles, and the range is dynamic based on driving style. So the fuel light is not only a measure of how much fuel is in the tank.
I could park my car after ragging it a little with the range on 46 miles and the fuel light on, in the morning I'll start it and it'll say 60 miles and the fuel light will be off.
Basically if I drive 50 miles in 1st gear at 6000 revs I could get the fuel light to light up with half a tank still in there!

It's like Fuel Light Roulette 2: The Sequel - start a journey where the white dot is further right than the miles remaining bar and watch them chase each other to zero![]()
I usually carefully calculate how much fuel i should need for each trip based on in depth analysis of previous fuel economy data, combined with expected traffic flow for that journey.
I then fill up using a jerry can and measuring jug on my drive.

Is it just for that warm and fuzzy feeling you get holding the Super Duper Fuel nozzle?![]()
That sounds awesome!
Many a jolly trip I've had with the fuel computer telling me 0 miles remaining! Better than the gym for getting the heart rate up.

AKI != RON though.
93 octane in the US is fairly similar in knock resistance to EU 98
