Fuji X Series

Got the lens this morning, want to check something if it's just my copy. Seems really stiff to put the lens on/off.
You’re doing better than me, mine is still in the hands of Royal Mail
Hopefully it will arrive tomorrow. I’ll let you know how my copy feels.

Lens finally arrived this afternoon. I definitely see what you mean about being difficult to take on/off. I struggled quite a bit to get the rear cap off at first! A couple of on/offs and it seems to loosen up a bit. I recall reading somewhere before that new Fujifilm lenses have exhibited this behaviour before. It seems as if there’s some sort of bedding in period for the metal on the mount or something. I’ve only been fortunate enough to have afforded two lenses from new, this and the XC35 - three if you include the 18-55 that came as part of my XT-20 kit so I can’t really compare.
It’s not something that concerns me and first impressions are it’s a very nice lens. I’ve only took a few shots round the living room so will get a bit further later on hopefully. I’m particularly interested to compare and contrast with the XC35 f2 just for kicks.

My X-T3 went off to MPB on Tuesday and today they paid me for it.

Not expected to get my X-T4 until next week as I've ordered grey import.

Been using my old Nikon D7200 for a bit and I love it all over again, kind of making me regret giving up on a DSLR.

Image quality out of this camera is still fantastic.

I’ve recently been fully reorganising my Lightroom Library and I’m convinced some of the best shots I’ve ever taken have been with the Nikon D750. Had a play with some of the raw files, incredible dynamic range, even when comparing it to my A7R3’s files.

I don’t regret moving to mirrorless but I’m thinking I should have held onto the D750 and all my Nikon glass for longer and got even more life out of it.

Also just ordered the 35mm F2, went with the XC35 rather than the XF.

Next will be something with a good focal length, maybe the 55-200.

How are you finding the XC35? Had much time to play with it?

Has your X-T4 arrived? What do you think of it?

Edit - just saw your above post on the X-T4 :D

That's how I feel, the D7200 was very short lived.

I started with a Canon 1300D which was also very good for a £350 camera with an 18-55 lens, produced very sharp images for an 18mp sensor, I then got the D7200 to go along with the 1300D but only used it a couple of times as the Nikon glass at the time was too expensive.

Then went from the 1300D to the Sony A7iii, I loved the Sony but I felt like it was too much camera for what I needed, barely used any of the features.

It's probably going to be the same when my X-T4 turns up next week :p

Yeah I know what you mean. There’s something to be said for the Fujifilm gear though, something special about using it for me. My X100V gets far more use than my Sony gear and that’s not just because it’s a lot smaller and more portable. I get consistently better images with my A7R3 but I just enjoy using the Fuji.

My XC35mm arrived yesterday, wow, what a sharp little lens for the money!

Blows my 16-80mm out of the water.

Just a heads up for anyone debating the XF16-80mm, just don't bother, out of camera image quality is **** poor and it's really not what the paid sponsors online reviewers make out. I'm really disappointed with mine and was tempted to ask LCE for another but I expect (because kit serial numbers are matched) they'd want the whole kit back and my X-T4 is fine, plus, reading online it seems most 16-80mm are horrendously soft.

Such a shame Fuji didn't get this one right, as it's well built, a decent size and weight and would be glued to my camera if it was any good :(

I have to say my own findings were totally different from yours. From the outset I don't feel the 16-80 is marketed as a 'super sharp' lens, if you're buying it then you're buying it for the focal range and fixed aperture (albeit f4) more than anything.
That being said I made my own comparisons with mine against my XC 35mm f2 and 18-55 (both now sold) as well as my 55-200 and I have to say the 16-80 more than holds its own against all three.
At f4 it's on a par with the 35mm and from f5.6 on I actually find it sharper in most cases.
It's every bit as sharp in the centre as the 18-55 although given the price difference one would hope so but the 16-80 is noticeably sharper in the corners at all FL's and apertures.
Finally it is also every bit as sharp as the renowned 55-200 up to about 60mm then admittedly sharpness falls away with it being particularly soft in 70-80mm however I think most reviews do at least elude to this fact.

Interesting, I've had 2 now, both in kits, first kit had a faulty X-T4 so it all went back and I got another one, both 16-80mm left me feeling deflated on the whole Fuji experience, I was comparing some of my old Canon 60D images with cheaper lenses and they were significantly sharper.

Mine is almost as sharp as the XC35 but only dead centre, crop in on an image and move even marginally away from the centre and things get soft quickly.

As mine was a kit it was only ~£300 on top of the body price but if I'd paid the full £700 these cost new I'd be really disappointed with it.

Some will know (from further on up this thread) I purchased the 50mm f2 which is a great little lens, especially what for what I paid (£320). However as lockdown continues and I continue my YouTube learning the idea of the Viltrox 56mm f1.4 was thrust into my brain. I don’t know why I never considered the lens before (since I own the 23 1.4 which has been excellent). It was probably because I wasn’t looking for anything in that focal range - I only bought the xf50 on impulse as it was on sale.
Does anyone have any experience/thoughts on the Viltrox vs the xf50? I know a technical comparison is really between the Viltrox and the xf56mm 1.2 but from a cost viewpoint the 50mm f2 is the direct competitor.
I know with the Fujinon I’m getting WR and the solid build quality you’d come to expect but then the Viltrox is a full stop faster...maybe I’m just chasing rainbows!

Xing Liu - He's a photographer on YouTube I follow who has done some comparisons between Fuji and Viltrox, it looks like a pretty interesting lens.
Thanks for the recommendation. The Viltrox does look pretty special for the price however the XF50mm just has that equally special Fujifilm quality and it complements my X-T30 very well.

In other news I’ve just seen Fuji’s new cameras and lenses drop. The 70-300 4-5.6 is available for pre-order for £729! I was expecting it to be a lot more.

I pre-ordered the 70-300mm as soon as it popped on Wex, sold my 100-400mm before Christmas as it was just too bulky for me so wasn't being used, looking like March for release.

Yep I have my pre-order in with WEX as well, can't wait! (Here's hoping they can meet the First Come First Served demand). I'll obviously move the 55-200 onto another home in the meantime. Maybe I'm spoiled with Mobile Phone releases but from the lens being announced yesterday we have to wait until 18th March - that's quite a slow turnaround. On the other hand my birthday is also that week so I have absolutely no qualms in pre-emptively treating myself :D

Yep, that GFX100S looks very tasty, think I'd have that over the new Sony A1!
My brother shoots Sony and he was talking about the A1 when I mentioned the new Fuji lenses. I then showed him the GFX100S and to say he was impressed is an understatement - Medium Format for £1k less!

I always thought of Fuji as the underdog compared to Canon Nikon and now Sony (which is odd given Fuji's history) but I'm hoping their jump to MF rather than FF claws back some more of the market for them.

I just wish they'd open the lens mount up to third parties (though their have been rumours this is happening this year).
