Fuji X Series

My 35 1.4 is up for sale on MM :)

Edit:
Wex offered me £284 so going to trade in with them.

Also bought the 50 f2, been wanting a 50mm for a while and it's a steal at £320.

Glad I could help ;)

:) I really don't like the silver though, so I think I'll just order it from e-infinity in black for the same price. Going for the 35mm f2 to replace the f1.4. I like the f1.4 but I don't find the extra light gathering that important vs the AF speed and compactness of the f2. I had the f2 previously but sold it, it was looking back an amazing lens for it's size.

I may move on the 18-55 as well. It's a good walk about lens, but I do find the photos lack the special sauce. I love primes, they really force you to get creative and move about to create compositions.

I think I want the 90 f2 as well.

I’m all over the place at the minute. Including the 50 f2 that I just purchased I have 12 f2, 23 f1.4, 35 f2, 50 f2, 90 f2, 16-80, 55-200 and 50-140 :o

At least two of those will be leaving, possibly three. As I mentioned yesterday I’m not convinced yet about the 50-140 but I’ll give it the rest of the weekend and see then. Either that or the 55-200 will go along with possibly the 90 f2 and 35 f2.
The 90 is fantastic but it doesn’t lend itself well to the run and gun corporate stuff I’ve been doing lately. If I was a professional portrait photographer in a set studio/environment I’d definitely keep it.
The 35 I have found less and less need for since I bought the 23 f1.4. The latter is so much better indoors with the extra light gathering and their focal length isn’t far enough apart for me to warrant keeping both - this is where I feel the 50mm will come in.

I’ll take your word for it, if it breaks though, you’ll send me a 35 F1.4 to make up for it? :)

Not a chance :D

While we're on the topic of lenses, I spent the day in the New Forest and all my shots seem slightly out of focus/not very sharp, I felt quite deflated again with the X-T4 till I Googled and found the below link. It's definitely worth a read if anyone is considering the 16-80mm which I got as a kit with my X-T4. It suffers badly from shutter shock.

I popped into the garden when I got home and took two identical shots, one with MS the other ES and the ES was pin sharp!

Pretty sure i got talked out of the 16-80 and was advised to go for the 18-55.

Not sure i'll bother going out now, almost went arse over tit just checking outside :p

Still snowing now, here's how it's looking outside.

Unfortunately I have decided to return the 50-140mm. I carried out extensive testing over the weekend, much to the wife’s annoyance as nothing else has been done :p.

I won’t bore you all with my test shots (there must be hundreds lol) but I have tested on everything from my little one, outdoors round the house and even the good old B&H test chart. At no point did the 50-140mm out perform my 55-200mm for sharpness, right up to f11. I posted previously about its being soft at f2.8 which I could almost forgive as that’s generally a feature of those type of lenses but although it improved from f4 on the 55-200 was still sharper up until f8 and on par thereafter.

It’s a pity as I really did want to keep it but I’ll hunt for another one.
In addition the XC35mm f2 will likely go up for sale with the impending arrival of my 50mm f2.

Why sell the 35 because the 50 is coming?
I've found lately that the 35 is surplus to requirements as it offers nothing that my 23 1.4 can't do and I feel the 50 will at least offer something different.

Why did you buy the 50-140 when your 55-200 has near enough the same at the wide end and greater zoom? Is it smaller/lighter than the 55-200?
I guess I wanted to check it out as almost every review says how much better it is over the 55-200 and although bigger it would potentially replace both the 55-200 and the 90mm f2 in my bag.
But it seems I either have a stonking copy of the 55-200 or a mediocre copy of the 50-140.
I appreciate the loss of 60mm at the long end is significant but again many users have said that the 50-140 @ 140mm cropped effectively to 200mm is still sharper.

I recently bought the 55-200 and it has massively exceeded my expectations. Think it’s just a decent bit of glass that punches.

Maybe I need to save for one of these. I take lots of landscapes and sunsets but a lot of the time i could do with being able to zoom in a bit, other than what i can achieve with software.

Edit:
XC 50-230mm f/4.5-6.7 OIS II Lens

Now this is affordable and it reviews extremely well. Might be a good punt?
