Fuji X Series

The big reason for the X-T3 in my mind is the physical controls (and the reason I switched from the XE range to the X-T range). If you're not bothered about that, then X-T30 all the way.

Been watching T2 on the bay, mint condition and just had an automatic offer of £425 + postage, damn my indecisive mind
Eventually picked up a mint condition T2 for £400 off the bay (100% trusted seller) now need to buy a lens …

Whats a decent memory card please gents? Will be minimal video, if any, only stills

Any lens recommendations for family get togethers? I have an X-T20 but neither the 16-50 or 27 cut it indoors. I want something that nails shots in low lighting but isn't too tight indoors and family never understand the concept of fixed focal lengths and if I want to be in the photos it needs to be dummy proof to avoid heads being cut off.

16 1.4 is up to the job and it also has a really close minimum focus distance for some pseudo macro.

@Barks uses one for family photos I believe.

Fuji or Viltrox 23mm 1.4?

I have the budget in the sense that I have some family events coming up and would like to use the X-T20 more over my mobile as after the event I am always left with should have used the Fuji if I had the lens.

The 27mm is 2.8 so would the f2 23 be a big step up?

Worth getting a flash also and having it remote?

The 16 sounds good but yes the distortion could be an issue when doing group shots. The 16-50 / 27 can then be left for travel duties unless the 23 works well.

I went back and edited my response because yes 23 probably won't offer you a huge change over the 27. The 16 1.4 would be where I'd go tbh.

Here is what it looks in a tiny living room.

Thank you for posting an example shot on the 16 1.4. That is the sort of shots I would take with some candid stuff and some more posed shots of the family.

There is also the 18 1.4 but 16 just gives you the width indoors.

I do like the 27 but at 2.8 is falls apart indoors as the ISO ramps up. It sounds like the 16 covers most shots indoors over the 23. I could then maybe get a longer fixed prime and sell the 16-50 and 27.

When I do weddings I usually reach for my 23 or 35 (50/50 each), but IMO f1.4 is essential- Fujis are OK at high ISO, but it's not full frame so you need all the help you can get. I sometimes pull out the 12mm f2 for effects, but rarely.

I've been neglecting my x100v and focusing far too much on the heavy workflows with the R5.

I dusted it off and baked in some 'recipes' off fuji weekly plus tweaked some of the film simulations. The aim is to have a point and click without the burden of RAW/workflow and have images save as jpeg straight out the camera ready to add to phone or save on hardrive. Cutting out hours and going back to basics you could say and enjoying the shooting element.

Overall:

1. Provia - reduced reds by -2 , blue -1 - my everyday "modern" look. Super safe.
2. Ilford HP5 - a monochrome film reproduction. Great for daily life of family. I've tested this and super happy with the results. Best shot slightly over exposed.
3. Kodak Portra 400 - the everyday vintage look, portraits included. Need to test this. Has warmer tones and some grain.
4. Kodachrome 64 - another vintage look. Going to try this for landscape and surroundings. Awaiting a good day to test it.

The only annoying thing with some of the recipes is Clarity. If that's used it takes quite a bit longer to save the photo and the screen goes black while it does it.

Yes true , I suppose depending on the subject you can turn it off for portraits etc and on for landscape.

But maybe it will force one to consider the composition a few seconds longer.

Edit: some of the recipes I've linked are actually -2/4 clarity.

Coming back to the land of Fuji after a year break. My good friend (and forum dweller) @Steedie has agreed to sell me his X-T3 and I've just put an order in at E-Infinity for the 33mm f1.4 WR (£575 delivered was too good to pass up). When I used this lens last year with the X-E4 I was blown away with how well it performed but I always felt it would be more at home on an bigger body.

Bargain! I’ve been looking out for 18-55 lens and I’m thinking if I spend closer to £300 I might as well get it from MBP or Wex where they offer warranty? My T2 ”Mint condition” :D is arriving today, just need to get a nice 18-55 lens and probably a carry bag:p

Ended up getting a BNIB 18-55MM off ebay for £350 delivered, rep seller should be here this week! Itching to see what it can do, ordered a trigger release button as well :D

If it's coming by Royal Mail I wouldn't hold your breath ;)
I posted two items (one on Thursday and one on Saturday), the latter of which was my trusty X-T4 and it hasn't even entered the system yet - still showing as received at Post Office. I just feel sorry for the guy who bought it.
