I would have to double check but i'm pretty sure it's 1.2A or whatever this one is that is coming soon.
It's how AMD are able to support that synchronisation.

You're free to think what you want, but my opinion is that your thinking derives from a hate of anything none AMD.
And so, you ultimately think AMD is king automatically and will essentially hate on anything Nvidia.

I think Martini has hit it on the head. You want to see nVidia in a bad light because of your AMD bias and therefore, you are prepared to come up with anything, even the impossible when it comes to putting nVidia down. Clearly this is the case, as it is only you and gamernab (whoever that is) who seem to think that G-Sync works on any monitor and doesn't need the module.I am out of this stupid, pointless and frankly trolling "debate".

Of course they are trying to make money, Tom Petersen said as much in a gsync interview.
Something along the lines of making a margin on one technology so they can pump funds into other new and exciting technologies. All sounds reasonable to me.
Are they expected to sit still and wait for vesa, make minimal profit, throttling funding on future projects or go solo and wait for it to pay off?

Shock horror as company brings product to market earlier than competition and sells it for a premium. Shock horror as company tries to make profit for its shareholders which it is legally required to do. Why people have such hate for GPU manufacturers innovating and making money is beyond me.

The only time ive had it happen is alt tabbing out of a game and back in, on a normal monitor that usually causes some black screen while the computer sorts itself out
To be fair, pcper were specifically trying to replicate the problem, so they went out of their way to force it to happen, most people on here are saying that in normal useage it happens very rarely if at all
"Taking"? Their end is here. AFAIK they are not making the monitors themselves?
It takes like a month just for the container ship to get here from China.

Sorry Humbug, you are completely wrong. The reason Nvidia did it this way is because they saw Adaptive sync coming. They are on the board of directors of VESA, they would have seen the proposal by AMD to get the eDP variable rate specification made part of the Desktop display port standard.
The problem with this is that graphic cards would need a hardware controller as well as a display port 1.2 adapter. Desktop GPUs don't come with this hardware controller, its not needed. There is no requirement to have it. It's why only the latest the GPUs from AMD support adaptive sync, they were built to support it.
And I would bet everything I have that no Nvidia desktop GPU has the required hardware controller. It would have been bad buisness for Nvidia if they waited for the VESA standard to come through as adaptive sync would have been associated with AMD, So they produced their own solution. Gsync, which is a module that combines the hardware controller on the gpu with the scaler on the monitor and includes a frame buffer. And got it to the market, and now they have the Gsync name out there.
Now lets get back to the mobile parts. To use eDP on your mobile graphics card you have to adhere to the specifications. The variable refresh rate/power saving/PSR etc are all a requirement of the embedded display port standard. So your graphics hard has to support these features. That's why you don't need a Gsync module in a laptop, everything needed for variable refresh rates is already there, It's just matter of writing a driver for it.
