G80 Pics

Looking at this thing makes me cry. Why don't they just release it later and concentrate on making more efficient gpus :(

I'm with LoadsaMoney, if this is the future of graphics cards then I will be getting as much out of my X1900XT as possible then probably buy myself a Nintendo Wii.
here here! i still think if game designers got there fingers out and sorted there poor codeing our gfx cards could last a lot! longer on current hardware!
seriously though guys this cant go on can it ? as someone said mobile phones are getting smaller and more compact , more powerful and there battires last a lot longer~!
so why on earth does the power consumption of our pcs keep going up? you dont see a xbox or ps3 with a £100 PSU at 600 or 700watts , this is getting bad!
power prices are rising all the time i have changed most of our house over to led lighting , but one hours on the pc with one of there sucking up the juice , would negate a whole weeks worth of led lighting!

1. moan about power consumption repeatedly

2. buy card when its released :p

You lot really do make me laugh, your all complaining about the power consumption, you knew it was going to need 200-250 watts.

Why even discuss?

It needs a lot of power, end of story. Its not the best news in the world, but its a new card, a new generation, more powerful.

Good outweighs the bad.

I'm pretty sure that the power consumption will be reduced for the generation after this, maybe even with a refresh. Its got to be because they're still manufacturing with old technology, and prolly haven't changed the architechture that much. (Sorta like prescott->core2duo)

Although it has supposedly got 48 shader units so maybe not...

Still at the end of the day, most people here have decent 600w+ psu's, I'm sure they will handle these cards no problem, when it comes down to it.

Actually the xbox360 does have quite a meaty psu, it just doesn't need to provide all sorts of connectors at a sustained power flow for all of them, its optimised for the specific design of the xbox360, PS3? Well it hasn't even been released and nobody knows anything about its power supply except its internal, so commenting on that is just pure speculation.

Most people don't bother with LED lighting, I really think people are going over the top on this whole power rubbish...

just my opinion and I'm sorry if its a little aggressive, but come on its just how it is.

Its like moaning about the weather, its for old grannies and bored people with nothing to talk about.

its raining......."oh"

it needs a lot of power......."oh well"

tbh that picture does make it look really carp. even though the x1950 wasnt waht we expected it to be, it did have a sexy cooler on it, that thing is jsut fugly.

/thank god im buying some solar panels for myslef. i was hoping to sell the electricity back to the board, but instead it will power 2 of these!!

Rubbish, u cant do anything about the weather, power consumption on the other hand...

lets see if you think power consumpsion is a joke , when the national grid starts to over load , and it will come , the country cant sustain the demand for the future.......and i am not talking about a few g80 or r600 , the counrties demand for energy is getting to much .......those who live in big citys will be worse affected with more and more power outages , living in north of scotland , our supplies are no where near maxed out , so in the future , city dwelers , will prob need UPS`s for there machines

errrrr there will no grids goin out, people are still gaming on 6600GT's only a handful of people will be buying these with the majority of pc users using onboard graphics, only gamers buy graphics cards, and only maniacs upgrade every 2 months to the newest card, i have an x1900xt overclocked past xt-x speeds this will do me for another 2 years until they have made a card which runs on 100W

Another good point made on the NV News forum is that the PCB is sporting the old nvidia logo so there's a very good chance the images are of an old reference board, could mean that the final design won't be as large.

Wait till the first reviews for pics of the G80, those pics are about as useful as a chocolate fireguard, e.g. pre release board.

Plus the WC version seems to still have a fan and a rather similar (if not the same) heatsink as the non WC version, that doesnt seem right to me.

Hm, me thinks your in for a bit of a shock, the grid system up your way is a tad underspecced for current usage ;).

Just saying its not that a big deal, what an extra 100watts maximum (lets not exaggerate like everywhere seems to be)

on top of the 500watts or so already. Its most likely a one off, there are people running SLI with similar power hungry-ness, just don't think its very interesting\alarming\scandelous as every site\person is making out.

Its prolly not even their fault, you guys want more powerful graphics cards then somethings got to give hasn't it.

I realise you can't change the weather, but you can't change the power recequirment for faster stuff, the companies that make these things are a business, they obviously think you lot will still buy them anyway (and they are right, aren't they). So there we go, its not complicated, its not that exciting, there's nothing really up for discussion.

Obviously its not ideal, will prolly buy one though, as I've got a 7800GTX myself, if I had a X1900 XT then would prolly wait.

I dunno what your all going on about a power grid failiure, we're talking about the power from 1 extra ligh being on in your house

Besides, 90% of power used in the UK is from industrial use.

10% you and me...

An extra 1 lighbulb on in about 0.01% of those 10% (rediculously high estimate of people that will own this card of the UK population)...

power grid failiure....? :p

If it uses 300W and say you've got a 7900 GT at the moment, that could be 240W extra. That's 12 power saving lightbulbs.

some how i doubt that the majority of pc buyers will be getitng 1kilowatt psu;s in their pc from dell, hp, ibm etc.

only the enthusiasts will bet going for these and there are far less pc enthusiasts as there are console gamers.

If the external PSU thing is true then it'll negate having to upgrade the main power supply anyway. Personally I'm generally environmentally friendly (apart from my methane output) so I'm not going to lose any sleep over running an SLI G80 setup, sod the power requirements, I want Crysis running flat out not chugging along like an old lady on a Segway.
