US: Game of Thrones - Season 3 - Book Comparison (Spoilers)

Oh you can't really complain about the whole execution of the scene tbh...It isn't easy to translate the awesomeness of reading that for the first time on to the screen, but they did a pretty good job, even though I thought a few moments fell flat and weren't as epic as they should have been.

I think the line changed to make it seem like Tywin was the mastermind, as ever.
Jamie has already had some revelation type moment on screen, even if it took him longer in the books.
So they don't wish to reset that in the viewers mind by throwing in a line which would suggest that he masterminded the entire affair, the entire red wedding.

The scene was good, it was well done, the Arya arrival was timely. Things are being tied up nicely. Was it Roose Bolton stabbed him in the book, I don't recall?

I assume Blackfish had to be elsewhere so they can show his character escaping, whilst everyone else is hostage or dead.

A further difference was the destination of Rikkon.
I assume with the GreatJon being 'away' they can send Rikkon to the Umbers.
Have him return later. I am now a little concerned for what Howland Reeds part will be in the books going forth.

Yes they have already alluded to Thoros saying he finds it harder and harder to bring back Berric.
Trying to think what the finale will be next week, attack on the wall?

I guess the attack is the most likely final scene.

Has Coldhands been cast yet? As that would also be a very nice ending seeing Sam and Gilly meet him before they get to that talking door beneath the Nightfort.

It's never been confirmed who Coldhands is and I doubt GRRM would let them reveal something like that if he is indeed Coldhands.

Guess they don't have to show his face fully so who knows?

Strange, I thought Bran recognised him but never actually said the words of his name.
I guess I do need to go back and reread it all.

I was mixed up in the red wedding also, as I thought it was a Fray who Caitlan discovered was wearing mail armour under his robs, rather than Roose Bolton.
I thought Bolton was still at Harrenhal.

It is Roose Bolton who kills Robb, even though it isn't specifically stated anywhere.... Jaime Lannister sends his regards. I just don't get that bit tbh, not the line, I'm over that, but it just seemed like nothing. Iirc, in the book he stabs him through the heart with a sword? (could be misremembering) in the show it was basically like a mugging... Did Robb's purse go missing? The scene could have been a bit more epic.

It was a Frey in the books, one of the two who went to treat with Robb at Riverrun, I think.

Roose was indeed there he leaves the hall then returns to stab Robb and says 'Jaime Lannister sends his regards'.

I enjoyed the episode but was so much more powerful in the books. No Greatjon, Smalljon, Wyman Manderly's son, one of the female Mormonts was there etc. Just Robb, Catelyn and whoever his Wife was in the show. Only cared for Robb tbh :(

Edit and of course Grey Wind, Arya should have let him out to go down fighting

I think its a lot less on screen due to the pace of the writing, tension and suspense build up over hours/days of reading and not being able to put it down once they reach the twins etc..

Coldhands is someone that died a long time ago if I recall? Although I'd love Benjen to still be ~alive..

Btw did I miss the scene where Strong Belwas fights the champion from (yunkia, mereen?) I'm sure I saw it in a trailer?

I guess they changed the line because of the time taken this season to portray Jaime as a good guy or at least much more likeable, I don't agree with changing it really but I am guessing that's why.

There has been no mention of strong Belwas thus far, and Darrio carries a curved blade as I thought Belwas did.

This is the main argument that people use for dismissing Benjen as a possibility for Coldhands, but personally, I don't think it rules him out. One of the Children of the Forest says to Bran something like "They killed him(Coldhands) long ago" and Benjen has only been missing for a few years.
