US: Game of Thrones Season 3 (contains spoilers)

The Reeds appear really strong and independent in the books, but they seemed weak and uninteresting in the show. Queen of Thorns was well acted though.

They were always small kids in my mind, just with lots of outdoor knowledge, kind of like Ray Mears or something, not likely to win in a fight, but could survive in the wilderness through knowledge alone.

Also, just like to point out, Cats dad is already dead lolol, this means they'll never talk about Cat's sister's unborn child. No awesome boat fight with Brienne and her boulders either. It's only when you remember what they've missed out you realise just how much stuff happens in the books.

Looking back on it now, it would have made more sense just to have a show called 'A Song of Ice and Fire', and the seasons just go at whatever pace is best for the show, rather than trying to stick to how the books are serialised.

edit-Marge Tyrell would SO get it!

Yep. Theon does not appear until book 5...all of what we will see in this season, is told retrospectively . it is going to take something away from what are probably the most powerful chapters of the whole series really

Well this opens up a significant question...How can they string out a 1 book plot over 2 or 3 seasons until Martin has written another book, or are they literally going to make an entire plot up for him?

I don't want to spoil it for you, as they are incredibly well written chapters, but I don't think they will actually be making stuff up with Theon's part(though it has already diverged quite a bit tbh). We are given lots of details of what happened to him since Winterfell, certainly enough to flesh out over a season or two...they will just be showing us what in the books was all told in retrospect.

That's cool. I've decided not to watch anymore GoTs until I've finished reading book 4 and 5.

To be honest, I don't think we should be talking about the books while at the same time talking about the TV Show. It will never follow the books, so I think it's a little pointless even bringing them up.

Can we stick to just talking about the show and what may happen within it and leave the books to another thread?

Martin has said repeatedly he's under no hurry to finish the books and likes to split his time doing other things so realistically it's safe to assume the show will catch up with the books and end up ahead. I suspect at that point Martin will have the show head off to a conclusion which will be at least partially different to the book.

If it ends the same way it will ruin the books for a lot of people or they'll simply stop watching the show and wait for the books, neither is a desirable option. So it's best to let the show writers come up with something within reason and Martin does his own thing.

I'm not going to read the thread in case it spoils it for me.

I watched series 1 in 4 days. Found it brilliant. Only thing, with the shows reputation, I was expecting more battles. Wasn't that much fighting at all.

Does it pick up in the second series?

yes books may contain obvious spoilers . leave this to tv show please.

This is that thread. There is another thread for people that don't want the spoilers or book talk.

It's about the show, not the book and that's the spoilers everyone would be expecting to see, book spoilers should still be in tags.

How exactly can a thread started in October with '(contains spoilers)' in the title, not be book spoilers?

I loved season one and two. Season 3 so far... meh I can't get into the two new episodes for whatever reason..

Is the main story now already played out?

I kind of agree here ... IMO they have too many subplots going on and not enough action ... its like a drama now more then a ... pardon me but a medieval fighting and screw fest as in the previous series ...

Id rather they get rid of 1/2 of these subplots and concentrate on just a few of them ...

The problem will be with the actors. Brienne and Jaime for example (while a funny story) it doesn't really add a lot to the core story of Westeros but they pretty much have to have their story put on TV because of Jaime and his actor is vital to the overal story and you can't risk the actor getting ****ed off and not returning to the show because you told him to wait it out for a season, this is also the reason they're showing Theon stuff.

I have not read the books and this is my feeling too.

All the stories feels like a chest piece on it'd own but it is evident that some are more important than others. The fact that some of them just feels dull, some are really good and held your interest. Ep1 was great but ep2 felt like an entire episode of fillers.

The Jamie story is very important, as is his development in relation to Brienne and where they end up.
