US: Game of Thrones Season 3 (contains spoilers)

The only character who is actually doing something is Carlisse (can't spell), the blonde dragon girl, she is the only person holding my interest and actually actively pursuing her dreams to get on the throne in this Game of Thrones.

Khaleesi is a title. Means queen. Her name is Daenarys.

Her story arc is the most boring for me :p

Erm, yes it is
No, his comment was not correct. He said:
And if you didn't like this week's episode I wouldn't bother with anymore as GRRM wrote the script so any changes from the book or divergences from the book are his own choosing.
GRRM wrote the script, the producers decide on the scenes and the changes to the story. GRRM just wrote the script.
From your link!:
In some of the scenes, Martin had to take into account the changes done by the production to some of his original plots or characters, writing scenes that could never happen in the novels
The producers decide on the pace, the scenes and the changes to the books. Raymond (and I don't really want to bring him into this but the original comment was aimed at him) has been commenting about the pace of this whole season. This is not just about last night's episode, but the ones previous which GRRM did not write.

There is so much going on, that IMO we aren't getting enough screen time of each of the main characters. They could have made a season of the show based on each of the story arcs, but then it would have been chronologically out of sequence, with some of the events taking place in subsequent seasons from another characters viewpoint.

It is just unfortunate that there is so much material and only a very limited amount of screen time per episode and per season.

I feel the same way as Raymond.

I haven't read the books, so I don't know what potential there is/was, and I watch a lot of television so I'm open to all kinds of pacing and plot development.... but this season has been a bit drab, even the die hard fan must see it in bits?

The first two seasons were great, well paced episodes with filler in the right places and at the right points in the season overall. Unfortunately for me this season just seems to have been all filler no thriller. I understand that it can't always be action-action-action and I don't expect that, but like Raymond said, we're heading into the 8th episode, and other than Daenarys and Jamie (and perhaps Arya and Theon), there has barely been any character or 'situation' development.

- Seven episodes for Jon Snow and co to walk to and climb the wall
- Seven episodes of Theon being tortured, we still don't know who's doing it
- Seven episodes of Robb and his army seemingly sitting in the same place
- Seven episodes of Tyrion not doing all that much
- Seven episodes of Sansa being married to him, no him, no him
- Seven episodes of Brann ;) sitting amongst some nice scenery and talking about crows

The only parts of this season I have really enjoyed so far have been Jamie and Daenarys, all the rest I feel could've fitted into 2, at the most 3, episodes.

I won't stop watching, but it is frustrating to be 7 episodes in and feel like I'm still waiting for the season to get going. And saying 'if you don't like it don't watch it' is silly, I don't stop supporting my favourite sports team when they're losing, I wait and hope they get better and return to the quality I know is there. Season 1 and 2 were great, I just hope that the last 3 episodes up the ante a little.

When you put it that way, yeah it's a little disappointing that nothing really groundbreaking has happened in the last few episodes. That's not to say I don't like it, I've thoroughly enjoyed every episode so far and the production/presentation is superb the seasons just need to be longer! Their budget for this must be HUGE so I'm surprised we haven't seen any battles Robb Stark has been involved with at least.

Aye same, i'm still enjoying the show too but it's rarely felt like it's moving forward at all this season. Danaerys freeing the unsullied and Jaime's character progression are the only parts that have, everything else just feels token and like it's walking round in circles. It shouldn't take an entire season just for that.

It is just unfortunate that there is so much material and only a very limited amount of screen time per episode and per season.

Then why does it feel like they actually don't need 10 episodes this season, they could have done then whole thing in 2 hours ?

It doesn't feel like too much material, it feels like there isn't enough material. About 80% short.

This season there has been a lot of sitting down and talking and not much else.

the king of the North and his people, the old lady with the stark girl, John Snow in huts, the kid with no legs in a camp fire, the fat kid in the snow. The grandad with his daughter and the dwarf or whoever he wants to control, the dwarf with that knight (of Robson and Gerome). They all mostly like to sit around and chat about what they are going to do
And they do it in the next couple of episodes.

Jon Snow, "Old lady and stark girl" are called Olenna and Sansa, "kid with no legs" is called Bran(don), "fat kid" is called Sam, "Grandad" is called Tywin, "the dwarf" is called Tyrion, "that knight" is called Bronn.

I'll hold you to that !

As for the names...don't really care since none of them have made an enough impression for me to like them apart from Khaleesi, the rest could trip and fall on the nearest broad sword for all I care.

That really does speak volume for the show though, when normally I don't want the main cast to die but in this instance, I don't care one bit.

Oh, where did that guy gone? The one who granted the little girl 3 wishes, I wish he comes back !

I just wish they'd put more sword fights in. There should be 1 or 2 every week.

Also, we need more torture scenes. I'm really enjoying Theon's misery this season.

The torture scene was pointless apart from some nudity to gratify the male audience it did not move the story for that character forward anymore than it was last week. We already hate the other guy so that was 10 min of on screen time wasted. Oh we find out it was implied that his willy has been cut or mutilated but do we need 10 mins to get to that point ? There are only 10 episode a season !

The John Snow story...yes they love each other but another 10-15 mins wasted, i mean they hunt and walked around the woods some more and she mistaken a windmill for a palace. They could have fitted that easily between dialogue and not made a big deal of it.

The kid with no legs, didn't get anywhere further than it was 5 hours of television ago. I mean look how far they've come (absolutely no where) compare to the distance and development Jamie Lannister's character has gone. I mean his hand has been chopped off and practically healed!

Jamie Lannister is actually going back ! Hurray ! Some story development !

Dragon lady has a new goal in freeing the slaves ! Hurray ! A new plot !

Mixed bag of an episode, half of it was okay, the other half was a waste of time.

Also in this episode:

Gendry was told he had royal blood

Arya was kidnapped by the hound - pretty major development

Robb Stark is going to be a dad

Jon Snow love triangle developed further

The way the entire series is structured is to have lots of small events that make the reader/viewer think about what is going to happen, and then to shatter that vision. In actuality there is very little wasted time in each episode, stick with it :)

I generally don't have a problem with the pace of the show, although it admittedly isn't as well paced as season 1. But I also understand their is a complex story to be told that needs to be properly woven together if it is to make sense at key points down the line

I do have a problem with their choice of focus however. Did we really need 10 minutes of focus on Theon? Or was this just an excuse to get 10 minutes of naked lady time?

We have a winner!

The torture scenes are totally unnecessary imo, hope we don't get any more

I have to disagree, in fact I think the majority of each episode is wasted time

I'm starting to forget who is who and what the hell is going on!

Too many short stories, too many characters, too little time...

Another week to wait, will be over soon then it's another year of waiting

Moaning about this show but you don't know the names of the characters? Don't understand some of the dialogue exchanges? Confused about certain scenes?

I don't know why you are even watching this.

I don't remember the name of the characters because they are weird nor do I care for their names because apart from a handful, they all seems like extras who matters little. You can argue til the cows come home how they matter more later on in the books, but we are not reading the books (you also should not expect the audience to have read the books), this is television and for the amount of time they have been on TV now, 27 hours, they are still throw away characters to the audience.

I do understand the dialogue, they just do bugger all to move the story. Season 3 has been 7 hours now, they haven't got very far! That Stark girl is still stuck as ever, she must have wasted about an hour of TV time moaning and crying alone.

I am not confused about certain scenes, I see them serves little purpose or for little purpose they served, 10 mins that it took them could have been condense to 30 seconds of dialogue for the same effect.

Everyone here who has read the book goes on about there are SO MUCH content to fit into so little screen time. But the way the show is portrait, it feels like they have little material and padding it out to the max to fill 10 hours they have been allocated. Can you imagine if it was a regular season of 22 episodes? They would be showing you how they wipe their bums.

Don't get me wrong, when it was good (season 1 and most of 2), it was great. But now it is stuck in first gear and never got going.
