US: Game of Thrones Season 3 (contains spoilers)

I don't remember the name of the characters because they are weird nor do I care for their names because apart from a handful, they all seems like extras who matters little. You can argue til the cows come home how they matter more later on in the books, but we are not reading the books (you also should not expect the audience to have read the books), this is television and for the amount of time they have been on TV now, 27 hours, they are still throw away characters to the audience.

I do understand the dialogue, they just do bugger all to move the story. Season 3 has been 7 hours now, they haven't got very far! That Stark girl is still stuck as ever, she must have wasted about an hour of TV time moaning and crying alone.

I am not confused about certain scenes, I see them serves little purpose or for little purpose they served, 10 mins that it took them could have been condense to 30 seconds of dialogue for the same effect.

Everyone here who has read the book goes on about there are SO MUCH content to fit into so little screen time. But the way the show is portrait, it feels like they have little material and padding it out to the max to fill 10 hours they have been allocated. Can you imagine if it was a regular season of 22 episodes? They would be showing you how they wipe their bums.

Don't get me wrong, when it was good (season 1 and most of 2), it was great. But now it is stuck in first gear and never got going.

Spot on ^

We have a winner!

The torture scenes are totally unnecessary imo, hope we don't get any more

I have to disagree, in fact I think the majority of each episode is wasted time

In the same way that hundreds of oages of the books are utterly wasted space also.
They are working mostly from the source materials, with modifications, which if anything cut down the number of characters and number of bits of toing anf froing that is going on.

Not at all. With regards to the show, the biggest problem is the inclusion of totally made-up scenes which do not advance the plot, at the expense of ones that do. During Bran's travels for example, we could have had the 'Knight of the laughing Tree' story, instead of a made-up argument between Osha and Meera, and some kind of story form Osha in the last episode, which is ultimately pointless.

I feel the same way as Raymond.

I haven't read the books, so I don't know what potential there is/was, and I watch a lot of television so I'm open to all kinds of pacing and plot development.... but this season has been a bit drab, even the die hard fan must see it in bits?

The first two seasons were great, well paced episodes with filler in the right places and at the right points in the season overall. Unfortunately for me this season just seems to have been all filler no thriller. I understand that it can't always be action-action-action and I don't expect that, but like Raymond said, we're heading into the 8th episode, and other than Daenarys and Jamie (and perhaps Arya and Theon), there has barely been any character or 'situation' development.

- Seven episodes for Jon Snow and co to walk to and climb the wall
- Seven episodes of Theon being tortured, we still don't know who's doing it
- Seven episodes of Robb and his army seemingly sitting in the same place
- Seven episodes of Tyrion not doing all that much
- Seven episodes of Sansa being married to him, no him, no him
- Seven episodes of Brann ;) sitting amongst some nice scenery and talking about crows

The only parts of this season I have really enjoyed so far have been Jamie and Daenarys, all the rest I feel could've fitted into 2, at the most 3, episodes.

I won't stop watching, but it is frustrating to be 7 episodes in and feel like I'm still waiting for the season to get going. And saying 'if you don't like it don't watch it' is silly, I don't stop supporting my favourite sports team when they're losing, I wait and hope they get better and return to the quality I know is there. Season 1 and 2 were great, I just hope that the last 3 episodes up the ante a little.

because its building up to the final episode and if you rewatch the full season after the final episode you will understand as to why everything is getting done.

but i dislike some of the ways they are moving away from the book and being so pointless. its cringeworthy some of the stuff. i do prefer the direction the book played. also with the torture, that didnt happen till dance of dragons, why are they so far ahead with that yet so far behind in others?

To be fair with the Theon stuff, what they are showing now does happen to Theon at this point in the books, but is only told to us later....they just want to keep Alfie Allen in the show(understandable, as he is perfect as Theon...maybe even the best performance in it imo). But I agree, it is pretty poor stuff, especially if they are going to continue it.

Osha and meera i assume is to build for the split to come, where hey go their separate ways, in a way more understandable than go because i tell you. One thing bran is not is lordly, command cretainly isn't his strongpoint currently.

Theon, best performance? He was at best bloody average and mildly unconvincing until he started getting tortured.

See, I'm not sure really. I can't decide whether I didn't like his character because the acting was bad. Or because the acting was good and he was such a douche.

Sounds weird but that's the case. The more I watch of the torture scenes though (despite how long they drag them out), the more I'm leaning towards the latter.

His acting wasn't great... if his acting was great and I hated him, then I would love him for that. There is a big and noticeable difference between the two...for example Geoffrey plays the part perfectly, I literally hate the little **** simply because he plays it so well.

Aye and the actor for stannis has him to a tee, it is so hard to like him, and not because he has done anything particluarly wrong, just because he is stannis, being stannis.

Geoffrey, lol

I guess you mean Joffrey

I agree, Stephen dillane is brilliant as Stannis, but the character is not being handled well. Hopefully, they will focus a bit more on him (and Davos) now. I hope they bring out his amazing sense of humour!

I totally disagree about Alfie Allen though, he is a perfect Theon Greyjoy imo. Best casting in it.

The casting in general has been excellent so far imo

I agree that while Dillane has nailed Stannis the character hasn't really been given enough legs this series, he just seems to be sulking and brooding at Dragonstone since Blackwater Bay

I actually like Stannis a lot. He's a man of honour - hard but fair and true to his word.

He is also a leader and brave. I noted his leadership of the assault on King's Landing - first into the boats and first onto the beach and first up the ladder etc.

Stannis would make a good king imo. He'd keep the realm in a fairly good state.

I have 1 question though ...

Just watching season 2, and in episode 9 (Blackwater) there is a standoff between Bronn and Hound in a brothel before the battle.

I don't understand why the Hound seems to hate Bronn so much. Have I missed something?
