US: Game of Thrones Season 3 (watch-a-long thread {no spoilers})

Ahh, so this is where the budget went :p

The fight at the wall was far more epic than the fight in Meereen though so I can see why they did focus on this.

I have to say, I was expecting something different with this episode, I wasn't disappointed though!

Awesome episode and lol at the 'shot through the heart' :p

Really like how they just stuck to the single story arc. It really gave the episode some depth.

P.s this is the us TV thread not the uk one. So as long as it has aired in the us its OK to talk about that episode

Well, seen that coming.

Though I thought it was the white walkers coming from the other side of the wall until it was mentions it was the wildings.... Thought this season was supposedly more about the white walkers or have they took that story out now? It's all the season trailers/ banners/ articles was all about.

Thieve been teasing us with the white walkers story since the very first scene in season 1. Then usually at the end of each season , then they never really go anywhere with it.

I simply can't believe how much epic-ness was delivered in this season already. Superb pacing, every other episode could easily be season finale cliffhanger, and just when you thought it couldn't get any more epic, the next episode would knock the whole story telling out of the park again. Last week's episode contained 6 minutes of the most memorable duel in history of TV. I had to press rewind twice to make sure I saw what I saw. You'd think this is it, they will start wrapping the myriad of storylines for the season. And to my surprise we get entire episode focusing on one location instead. And what an impossible to describe without using cannonade of glorifying swearwords episode that was!

Considering we are still talking TV production visual effect are in completely different league to anything out there, at times making Hobbit look like last century venture. And the evil details, my god, finally, for once, nobody thinks of certificates and children and what an eye popping, fantastic ride it is. I hope film makers learn their lessons from HBO.

Only one more episode to go then another year to wait... I wish i hadnt found this series til we were in the last season then i could watch them all at once.

Will end up watching them all again when its finished like i am now with breaking bad but still...

I think I'll end up reading the books once this season is over. Had them on my ipad for ages but never got around to it.

No dont do it. From my experience when you watch something youve read comparisons and omissions keep popping up in your head ruining your viewing experience. If i where you I'd wait for the series to finish completely before you read the books else you wont get as much enjoyment out the show.

Whereas I found book 1 and 2 tiresome at points because I'd watched s1&2 and knew exactly what was going to happen. I still enjoyed the book though because of the amount of back story you get. I'd definitely read the books before hand. GoT is a very good rendition of the books, good enough that knowing the book plots doesn't taint the viewing pleasure. Imo anyway.
