Gaming pc (future proof) gpu in hand

It was going all so well, until you mentioned front header cables :D

I am swamped in cables in what seems like spaghetti junction.

I have ten fold of cables that come with The PSU (these seem quite self explanatory)

but the extra cables that came with the motherboard are the ones that remain the mystery :D that and I can’t find the screws to screw the motherboard to the case...

The front header cables come (within/attached) the case. They are labelled wires which attach near the bottom of the motherboard (you may have a 'block' that makes attachment easier).

This is the best image 'example' i have of a front header within IMGUR (note example - yours may differ):

Cables look a bit like this (ignore colours). The circled triangle is the positive - if they have them. If not have the writing/letters facing outwards.

Screws will have come with case.

*Note use 2 independent leads for the GPU (worry about that later)

Yeah know what you mean... fiddly little wires going in to easily breakable pins always worst part of build! The standoff screws should have come with either case or mobo?

@Plec

Get yourself a beer , even if at a team.meeting

Also Aorus boards have a fancy bit that you attach case power cables/led to , then plug it into the mobo . Just makes life easier then doing each piece with limited space

Sure you've earnt a few beers off these threads now with build time haha
That's the stress free part - been an interesting distraction while waiting (although glad of the company/extra input.).

*I'm about to summarise and I'm keeping everyone logged on - so may be 'radio silent' for a bit. But, will be back...

But, @orbitalwalsh has excellent/superior knowledge so if he's free you won't be left in the lurch - but i will be sure to check back once done.

I would happily PayPal gift over to you @Plec :D the time you have given up to constantly reply is phenomenal! I think I need a beer and to re visit this in the morning haha (a bit of swatting up)

again, I thank you, and everyone else (@orbitalwash) for your kindness. Please bear with me this weekend :D

Take your time . Don't rush. Don't **** it up (small and non costly ) then it's not a successful build. Haha. In my view anyways. Something has to be double checked to correct to learn from :)
Honestly it's boring when it all just works first time

No, no need for PayPal - that's what the community is for. More than happy to help a friendly first time builder - even when I'm juggling time.

And I will keep an eye out over the weekend. When I'm attached to threads like these i rarely reply/respond to other threads and i have your thread set for alerts.

*Go have a well deserved drink (or two/three)!

@orbitalwalsh, is right - best to measure twice and cut once. Don't second guess yourself - but certainly read/YouTube/ask what you're uncertain about before attempting it.

Can't relate to this - this is one of @orbitalwalsh's personal idiosyncrasies (but i can appreciate the ethos). :D I would take boring all day long - trouble shooting is interesting up to a point - until it takes the p*ss (especially after one of my own personal builds).

*His wife is disappointed with this approach too :D

/runs...

...drink.

Good morning all :D

I have been at it for the past hour (maybe made 0.1% progress!)

so far I have connected up some of the header cables, see below (this didn’t click in place, just slots.....)

connected the hd audio, see below

however, I am stuck with these cables that I have no idea what they do nor where they go! The motherboard instruction leaflet is very vague! 3 of these....

1 of these (maybe usb? Do I need to connect?)

2 of these? (Sata? Need to connect?)

I
thank you in advance :D

ps, will my cpu/cpu cooler be okay after rotating it last night? I obviously applied the thermal paste but then removed the cooler to rotate (the thermal paste was spread lovely and thin all over the cpu without excess but then just reapplied the cpu cooler without wiping off the thermal paste and re applying (I presumed because it was fresh paste it would still spread sufficiently without causing air gaps?)

Morning. The picture with the 3 cables look like fan headers. In guessing they are from the front case fans ?

I can't remember if your case came with a fan hub so all of them plug into it, worth checking , if not they go into the motherboard system fan headers .

Also, the CPU cooler will have two fan headers (one for each), these will plug into CPU fan header near the top of the board .

3rd picture looks like power sata cables for maybe the case RGB ?

Also the second is front case USB ports that gets plugged into the mobo. Either at the bottom or right side of the board. Should be listed as 3.0 USB

Mornin' all:

As above - thankfully, Orbi's kids are younger than mine so I got to lie in...

...for about 30 minutes, before going to a Covid test centre in storms - YAY! (One of the kids has a temperature - pretty sure it's a none descript bug as they're doing the rounds, but can't afford to be in isolation over nothing so had to get them tested :/).

The system fan headers will be labelled SYS_FAN1, SYS_FAN2 etc... They'll be dotted around the board - one near the rear venting fan but maybe covered by your heatsink - and you'll have a few near bottom of board. But, your case should have a hub as mentioned by @orbitalwalsh - and your CASE fans should fix into this and you will have a small control panel to set speed and probably RGB.

The USB header will be at the bottom edge of the board (same edge usually as the Front Panel Header) - but looking at pics you may have one near your memory - this will be easier to access and neater. .

And the other cables are @orbitalwalsh's dream cables - they will probably power the RGB or any preeedy lights on the case. (A case of that quality should have a manual for your HUB and associated cables).

You gotta love coffee:

Just skipped through a YouTube clip of your case, as my caffeine infusion filtered, and cable management looks tricky for a first time builder. Below are a couple of vids - and from a brief glimpse of case fans/lights those SATA cables will probably be for the RGB fans and the case logo lights - as i heard the guy mention they were not both on the same loop (double check).

The RGB is subtle - and looks quality when fully assembled.

Good morning guys :)
@Plec, oh heck! That’s not what you want to wake up to on a Saturday morning (or any!) I hope everything is okay!! (As much as it can be)

@Plec @orbitalwalsh thank you both!!! :D :D

I believe I have connected the Psu/gpu up all correctly and used the cables I need to....

I seem to have a few spare....2xs pcie, 2xs peripheral cables, 2xs sata cable, 1xs floppy adaptor.

I also have the remaining motherboard cables left over?

Cables are all in - but ideally you would route them via the back of the case and have them come through the rubber oenings - skip through the first YouTube clip as i think he builds within the case and will have an example of this type of cable manangement. It will help considerably with case airflow too - i.e. unrestricted and with a windowed case will look a lot neater.

Also, you need 2 independent cables to go into your 2080Ti - i wouldn't daisy chain from the one cable/connection (again the cables can come from the other and you can zip tie the loose cables).

@Plec mine had Covid , 4 at the time and required paracetamol and ibuprofen around the clock for 4 days. Told to exceed 4 doses per product and both at the same time . Average was 40.3c - key thing they look at in kids is rash for PIMS

Looks good !!!

@Plec @orbitalwash

Oh thank you :D I have to say it looks much better!!! (Not as good as what you guys would do but for an amateur I’m pretty impressed!)

yes, I remember you saying about the pcie cables now! Doh, I’m at a loss end though as to what do do with the 2 daisy chains? Just zip them together and hide them the best I can?

many thanks
Rich :) :)

Looks good !!!
No it doesn't :D

But was a great first try.

Yeah, you were hit early and had a tough time - was just glad to read you all got through it relatively unscathed.

And, unfortunately, I know more that i ever wanted to know about Covid...
