Gaming pc (future proof) gpu in hand

@Plec @orbitalwash

Oh thank you :D I have to say it looks much better!!! (Not as good as what you guys would do but for an amateur I’m pretty impressed!)

yes, I remember you saying about the pcie cables now! Doh, I’m at a loss end though as to what do do with the 2 daisy chains? Just zip them together and hide them the best I can?

many thanks
Rich :) :)
That looks so much neater (nice job) - and your glass display and airflow will thank you.

If you have smaller zip ties(?) - use those to zip tie the loose ends to each cable.

May I be cheeky and ask “what next?” :D
  • Double check all your connections - including your Front Panel leads (the small ones).
  • No need to add side panels yet while testing
  • Connect your monitor to the GPU using the DP or HDMI (NOT the motherboard - easily done with a first build if using an HDMI)
  • Plug kettle lead into the PSU and, if you can, plug directly into the wall rather than an extension lead (not a deal breaker if you can't)
  • Make sure PSU switch is set to the 'on' position.
  • Connect Keyboard and mouse
  • Power on the PC via case button
  • Then press the DELETE key at it starts up - keep tapping, until you enter the BIOS
  • Report back with temps

Just noticed the below:

ps, will my cpu/cpu cooler be okay after rotating it last night? I obviously applied the thermal paste but then removed the cooler to rotate (the thermal paste was spread lovely and thin all over the cpu without excess but then just reapplied the cpu cooler without wiping off the thermal paste and re applying (I presumed because it was fresh paste it would still spread sufficiently without causing air gaps?)

Very important you sit in the BIOS and monitor temps.

Such a lovely build ruined astectlly by ugly fans can't understand.

Can't deny it's a quality cooler but what made you choose that over the NOCTUA NH-D15 CHROMAX PURE BLACK or dark rock pro 4

@Plec did warn me about this, now that I see it in person, I also agree!! However it’s a little too late (plec will be saying told you so :D) however at a later date I will see if I can get the black fans or will change the cpu cooler) but for a first build I will settle that it just works lol!

@Plec just have to take the Mrs shopping before I get castrated then I will follow all your latest instructions. :) hope you’re all having a great Saturday.

I will report back ASAP.

However it’s a little too late

@Cosmic182 - if wanted, you could buy Chromax covers and fans (expensive) but can be added with the cooler in situ so less hassle (you could sell on your other fans via MM to offset cost):

Yep, few builds are worth losing the 'little amigos' over.

@Plec its working!!!!! We have power! :D temps are as follows.....

Cpu temp 44
System temp 24

Cpu temp 46
System temp 29

Cpu temp 46
System temp 32

After 10 mins start up
Cpu temp 46/47

Temps look good. But, as you did a heatsink realignment without cleaning we'll need to check stress temps once all installed - but suspect it will be fine.

Lots of questions:

  • What BIOS version do you have?
  • Do you have the Windows 10 USB prepped?
  • Do you have a laptop?
  • If you do download the latest motherboard drivers and Nvidia drivers in preparation of Windows completed install (not a problem if you don't have a spare USB - we'll do it once Windows is installed.).
Motherboard drivers:
  • Chipset,
  • Audio,
  • LAN,
  • WLAN+BT
Nvidia - latest 2080Ti drivers

Unfortunately, no spare USB. Just the one with Windows 10 file on.
But I have a laptop yes.
You could download the drivers to a file while Windows installs/initialises - and transfer them after for install.

EDIT: Use a black USB slot to play safe.

You need to insert your USB into a rear USB slot (NOT the one labelled BIOS) select Boot Option Priority and then select UEFI USB as first bootable device.

Select EASY MODE - you should be able to make the Boot change there.

F10 - save and exit.

Windows should start to do it's thing. Follow prompts - and select privacy that you want (i don't allow anything - especially Cortana - but you need to personalise for your choice.)

(we will setup memory once windows is installed).

I've popped the USB in to the rear, but under boot sequence there's no USB.... just windows boot manager which says no bootable device.

Edit

I pressed f10 and its restarted installing windows.

Great - some boards will do it automagically (recognises bootable device)

You will need to remove USB once Winodws has installed and before it asks for restart.

/off topic
May be silent for a bit - giving kids medicine and as i'm double dosing i'm being very careful to make notes of tablets and times.

Plus, hard to move as youngest has melted into me, poor thing.

Once windows has installed and restarted (manually) - install:
  • Chipset drivers - reboot
  • WLAN+BT
  • Audio
  • LAN
  • Reboot if not offered before
  • Nvidia drivers

Apologies for all of this when your youngest is not thereself, I feel awful pestering! Hope the poor thing is soon on the mend.
And don't feel bad - they're literally glued by me and on occasionally sprawled across me - they're quite comfortable sharing their germs with Dad. Plus, they have full control of the Disney channel - so i'm being tortured with endless Phineas and Ferb and occasional Gravity Falls (If you haven't got kids these titles will probably go straight over your head). Luckily, they're the better kids programs...
