Gary Speed Dead

I was at the Swansea game earlier and the minute silence/applause was electric.

Truly shocked, staggered and astounded to hear this news. Thoughts to his family and friends :(

Same here, was in the south stand and the whole ground went quite while the captains where tossing the coin. Not a peep.

Very sad of course, so strange to sit watching him on football focus just a day before seemingly fine.

My dad always used to tell me to play like Gary Speed, I couldn't of course :D

I'm a Forest fan so will be at Forest V Leeds tomorrow, Leeds away support is fantastic so I am sure they will lead the tributes with brilliance.

My heart is with his family, god knows what they must be going through right now.

Especially his wife, I mean.... finding your husband hanging, I just can't comprehend.

Knocked me for six this one, yesterday was a strange day. Such a shame, I despair to imagine what he was going through. He seemed such a nice guy, perhaps hit us all harder because of that and also seeing him on Football Focus the day before, seemingly without a care in the world.

One of the very few remaining good guys in football. Massive loss.

Absolutely shocking news yesterday :( True testament to him just how much sadness has surrounded his death.

A lot of talk about depression but there must have been something else. Saw something on Twitter yesterday about The Sun denying something. Not going to discuss it on here as it is not the time, but if it is true then it is likely to be a big story about the behaviour of the press in general.

That is for another day though. For now, R.I.P. Gary Speed :(

Very sad indeed, I think its the fact that he was an honest player and a likeable person make it harder for the footballing world. The Swansea/Villa silence/applause had me welling up!

Felt really saddened by this news the past 2 days :( He was like a part of my childhood, watching leeds as i grew up he was a big part of the team when i first got into football, being half welsh i also had a fair interest in the welsh national team, he was pulling them together to become a decent team.

Seen this on facebook earlier, made me well up :( http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=HVQoUpo9rX0

It's only getting harder to get my head around it, the more I think about it the less it makes sense

I just cant believe how much it has affected me - the fact that so many grown men have been reduced to tears over the airways shows how nice a guy he was - i guess we all have people like that in our lives, who we can relate to.

Which makes it all the harder to understand

Yeah I agree. I never knew the man personally. Wasn't a supporter of any of the clubs he played with. Yet I find myself feeling affected by his death, which I almost never do unless I know the person or they have had a major impact on my life.

I guess it comes down to this - Speed seemingly was living the life that most of us would love. Successful career, wealthy, beautiful wife, children... seemingly everything to live for. Yet he chose to end it. I just can't comprehend that, but it goes to show that you can never really tell how the human mind works. To have it all, seemingly and kill ones self. He must have had some real pain and sorrow.

RIP

Really glad to have been able to support him from the stands and I'm sure others in my situation feel the same, but it's the love and support from all corners of the game that really shows the true measure of the man, not just the player. Football has lost a great ambassador in a time where it really needed men like Speed to show it can be done and still be a good guy. Saying all that, the real tragedy is that two young lads are left fatherless in the blink of an eye, their father was a great man but he's left them a world of heartache for the rest of their lives. Just wish he found strength in them to see out the night, find courage the next day in seeking help. Such a waste.

rip Gary :(

As with most deaths in the public eye the hardest thing will be to find closure on why it happened in the first place. Far too many lives have been lost before they should have been this year :(
