Gauntlet 2009 Joiners Thread!

As long as any downtime doesn't cost more than the benefit. :)

I've been crunching away the whole time I was playing with the GPU clocks.:D

OK, I've lost about 6 WU's and about 10 mins processing time to computation errors, but it's quick and easy to back off using RivaTuner.

I'm not trying for 100% game stability, just Gauntlet stability.:)

And it seems to be working. :D:D

Hi,

The clocks on my GTX's went a bit haywire due to the 'crappy' Ntune software so I will flash a modified bios to the cards.

I know they were all fine at 676/1457/1100 and I even have an old bios set at 735/1584/1200 which was OK when the boards were in quad sli albeit those speeds needed a voltage increase as well, not sure how reliable they will be on Cuda tasks at this speed.

Good news is I am almost finished building a machine for my partners son, an i5 and GTX260 which can 'burn in' on my account for the gauntlet.

Bad news is i may be off on holiday Sunday, have yet to make a final decision. If I do go everything will be left on and running but without supervision and constant maintenance things can go a bit haywire. I may bring my machine to the office so it can be rebooted morning and evening which will reset any bad units.

Cheers, Simon.

one for Berserker

whats happened to the host tab on teamocuk? when you are in the individual user webpage, you used to have 4 tabs, now only 3?? or was i imagining things:confused:

Now that is dedication to the cause - nice one Simon

Aaargh!! Attack of the CUDA Shorties.

I thought my RAC was dropping! :(

I've got about 350 of the pesky little blighters! :(

Nowt I can do about it, I suppose. I just hope my RAC doesn't drop through the floor!

I've upped the clocks on 2 of the GPUs, I'll leave them overnight to see how they go. I've also upped the clocks a little on both my dual cores. So far so good *touches wood* :p

Just used GPU-z to check the temp of my GTS 250 and noticed that both core and memory clocks were below that stated on the OcUK site. A quick google shows that the specs OcUK give are correct (738MHz core clock, 1100MHz memory clock for this card), whereas mine defaults at 702 and 1000 for some reason.

Downloaded RivaTuner to sort those out and noticed that the shader clock was well under the stated 1836MHz (around 1512MHz at stock!). Upped that to near-as-dammit what it should be.

Will keep an eye on the GPU WUs for a little while to make sure they're not erroring. Making the assumption that everything'll be alright, any ideas as to why my card appears to have been underclocked?

Nah, it's definitely running at 3D clocks - RivaTuner says that the 2D clocks are much lower than what I was getting at stock.

Well, I can answer my own question, which I'll start by saying that I'm an idiot... just realised I've got the 'green' version, which is presumably why the clocks for everything have been underclocked. And because I'm unwilling to risk trashing loads of WUs overnight I'll back the clocks down again.

I really should learn to read things properly :o

Well done that man! That's a fine stomp and no mistake!

In the meantime, I've got Berserker in my sights. Might be tough catching him up with only six days of the gauntlet left, but you have to keep these old-timers on their toes... :D

Thank You TT.

I think you will have a tough time catching zerker.....

Looking at your work output, it's possible........gonna be close :)

Wonder what else I can borg. Toaster? iPhone? Neighbour's cat? ;)

My laptop did its usual trick and dropped wi-fi. Does it every time it gets put under 100% load for a few days. I was there when it happened though and the Cat5 that normally serves the Xbox was quickly re-routed.

Don't start that off again! Last time I read the animal-borging thread I almost ended up with a hernia from laughing so much.

What breed of cat is it exactly? Might make all the difference...

Question:

Why would SETI go slower when I inreased the Shader clock from 1400 to 1500?

A work unit that normally took about 12mins took nearly 20mins to complete.....

:(

Stock Speeds are:

Core - 650
Shader - 1400
Memory - 1000

Possibly a little too far on the shader clock for stock voltage?

Cheers, Simon.

Just spent a few hours getting the i7 setup and forgot to order a wi-fi dongle so had to put this machine back together, epic fail on my part all that time not on for nothing
