Gauntlet 2009 Joiners Thread!

it sure is mighty close, however i don't think i have enough fire power to hold on to 3rd.

on an unrelated note i suppose i should give Mr Smith a parp, around 10 days i think before i get back into the top 10. feels very odd give him a parp, he was so far out in front as number 1 when i started crunching. i thought it would be impossible to catch.

I know how you feel, I can remember looking at the top 20 with all their millions and thinking that Id never get that many, now Im 16th, just goes to show what the gpu apps have done to distort the value of credit...
I can remember my first cruncher, an old AMD K6 300Mhz, every classic unit took hours

Same here. Seems odd to be approaching the two million mark, but since upgrading my PC about a year ago - and with the recent addition of a GPU - the credits have come thick and fast.

My first cruncher was a 2.4GHz Northwood that I ran SETI Classic on, managing about seven or eight WUs per day if left on 24/7 (which was very rare). I still have it actually but it was retired a few months ago because it's just not worth using it as a cruncher anymore. I roughly worked out that if it was to run SETI 24/7 throughout the gauntlet (three weeks), it'd probably struggle to get anything above 13,000 cobblies and, thanks to it not being in my room, it would've been switched not-on overnight, thus actually producing far less. In comparison, my quad-core with one GPU can easily do that in around two days, perhaps less...

Hi Guys,

The car is all packed and I am off for a week to a hopefully sunny south of France, St. Pierre-La-Mer to be precise. Plan is no computers, no smoking (got to kick the habit) and as much windsurfing and cycling as my old body will stand.

Everything is on and running with instructions left to reboot or exit/restart Boinc twice a day on each of the machines.

All I can say now is good luck and really hoping for 2nd place if we can :D

Cheers, Simon.

PS. If I can get a free wifi signal on my touch I may just log in on Friday and see how we all did ;)

Have a good holiday and good luck with the quitting smoking...

Final push - I've bumped the q9650's up to 4203 and the q6600 to 3402. :D

No time to Prime , just keeping an eye out for computation errors! :(

Lets see if they can take the pressure! :)

I was getting so close to you, too.......

Only 8k behind on yesterdays output, according to the Gauntlet Stats.

But I do hold my head high, cause I am only using the one rig (+ laptop which only counts for about 350-400ppd).

:D

Yeah picture the top one of these with smoke pouring out of the top of it from under the block and you will get the picture (without the lovely smell)

After I'd filled, primed and tested it. :(

I've ordered a replacement but not sure how much it will help me or the gauntlet :(

.......... :(

When my 8800GTX died after I flooded it, the smoke bellowed out of the rear exhaust and it stank! Could smell it in my room for the next week.

Thats without the above rig. :( So not sure how long it will last. All for the good of the team!

Not a new rig, its my old quad 9800GT rig that I used for folding thats been out of action while we had builders in.

I'm sure its not water damage, more like just one of those things. Could have been anything, won't know till I pull it apart, which I'm didn't get a chance to do this weekend and the replacement won't be here till tommorow.

i feel positively the lack of a large number of gpus in my small matx an mitx systems.
anyway, just looking at the stats, and not sure if we can try and catch [TA]TAS or not- our RAC seems higher, but SNL RAC lower. with a 151k lead, probably not, but who knows? :)
