Centralism. Too far either way is wrong and stupid.

Would argue that centrism is an outlook rather than an ideology, it misses the core of social and economic policies which are kind of needed ;) - but i would agree that the centre is pretty much empty right now; libdems have lost their way and Thrid Way Labour (using Giddens work as the blue print) was the last real centrist government *for a time*

The term "Liberal" doesn't mean "liberalism" in the neat way you're implying it does now. It's clear robfosters is referring to the modern left. This channel is closer to representing classic "Liberal" viewpoints than any other IMO.

I am stunningly aware of the differences - hence why the ideology is in small letters and the political party is in capitals /faceplam. The only time was the start of the sentence. Would you like a politics 101 lesson tight now?

Edit:

Which `Liberal` are you mentioning? Asquith or Gladstone?

Uh-oh; did you just call robfosters a liberal?:cry:

funny thing is, I just did the political compass test out of curiosity and came out as a slightly left authoritarian. I didn't even think there was such a thing. I was very close to smack bang in the centre of everything though.

Maybe I’m a centrist and the centrist of today is seen as more right wing than in the past.

Crikey. I make a post to try to clear things up and manage to garner even more off topic responses. Hopefully we can keep on topic after a little pruning. This thread is for discussion about the channel, not a left vs right battleground.

I believe in democracy to a certain point.

What, up until the point it doesn't align with your views? :p

We vote at the ballot box every five years. That should be it.

That's a very limited view of your involvement in society, but I suppose it does align with the subservient views of right wing authoritarianism.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right-wing_authoritarianism

In psychology, the right-wing authoritarian is a personality type that describes somebody who is naturally submissive to his authority figures, acts aggressively in the name of said authorities, and is conformist in thought and behavior

I don’t believe in taking to the media or streets, protesting and rioting over a decision taken by the government.

You added rioting on the end there sure, but you don't believe people should be free to complain in the media about what the Govt does or take to the streets and protest?

Wait until the next election and then show your displeasure with your ballot paper cross.

Again with your complete aquiescence of all individuality to authority. I think the complex decisions of running a country aren't fully encompassed by 1 X in a box every 5 years to give carte blanche moral authority to every decision they make.

I also fully support the right of police to go in heavy handed to break up protests against the government and arrest the protagonists.

China says hi :p

But seriously, you don't believe people have the right to protest the Govt....but you also say you believe in free speech, I'm struggling to square that circle.

We've had this chat before though. Youre so left that anything is far right to you.
No thats not it at all.

You are actually very right wing as is GBN. I dont know why you are trying to hide it it is plain for everyone to see, except those that are closely aligned to your type of politics. Im surprised you all seem so ashamed of it.

So back to actually talking about the new channel...

I've only seen bits and pieces here and there but my thoughts so far:

They need to get the technical issues ironed out, the 3 veteran broad casters Neil, Brazier and Stewart are clearly the best so far, they just seem so much more professional. I think a few of the others can improve in time, but I really don't like the daily mail Aussie at all, he just doesn't come across well to me.

I like the fact the are already touching on subjects which the other channels avoid completely or present in a way to suit their agenda ( migrant channel crossing are a good example)

Overall a bit of an iffy start but it's to be expected from a new channel. Hopefully they can get everything going better in time.

Come on, what do you expect the discussion to be about if it involves a political TV show? It's just going to be an echo chamber otherwise.

Don’t like this guy either, “in my opinion based on what I believe” thought he was going to site some statistics.

anyhow watched a little bit, segment on woke minefield (yawn) and superstar Megan Kelly (yuck) coming up next.

lol no thanks

I believe in democracy to a certain point. We vote at the ballot box every five years. That should be it. Even though I was a proponent of brexit, it should have been a choice made by the politicians we voted in, not us.

You don't believe in our right to protest? That is one of our most important freedoms. What happens if a party wins power with a large majority and starts passing laws making it more difficult for people who might vote for the other party to vote? You let that slide? You don't protest? That attitude is just asking for an autocrat to take charge, it is certainly opening the door for corruption and abuse of power.

And you want the police to deal with protests like they do in China, Russia or any other autocratic regime we could mention. No thanks.
