Gear Thread - Pics

Nice kit, funky layout :D I have a Catalina Birch, they're fantastic drums for the money. I'd love to get a Renown or USA Custom some day, will have to get rich first :p

I want a USA custom, looking at back end of next year i think, saying that though all gretsch kits are brilliant, so well built.

gigging tonight, it wouldnt feel right playing anything but my own kit. its a wierd lay out, but its so great for my playing style, and hand co-ordination :)

EDIT: on the money side of things when i first got the renown it was 2k just for the shells, no hardware :(

Also the gear:

8' 10' 12' 14' Floating Toms, Evan G2 Heads Coated.

14' Tama Warlord Masai Bubinga

Just a quick question. When I see Matt Bellamy (Muse) play live, I notice he always uses Hugh Manson's, which are a specially-made guitar just for him. Has anyone ever been able to track them down, can you actually buy them? I'd love to have one, either the chrome effect or the red one with the kaoss pad.

Cheers for any replies :)

You've no doubt heard of Mansons. This is the place to go, as I believe you maybe able to get him to build you a guitar. But with that being said, apparently Hugh went through the roof last time he had to build Matt a new guitar as he'd smashed his one to pieces on stage again. :p So I'm not sure. Your best bet would be to give Manson's a ring and ask if Hugh is in the market for doing that. I'm sure they'll know the answer straight up as they probably get asked all of the time.

Right suppose I better join the club!

Studio is undergoing some major work at the moment, will post when its all done, should have some nice new hardware!

Also protools is M-Audio based?

Just seen the set up Maccy - very nice, kind of what I'm using at the moment. How do you find the M-Audio Projectmix? I've got a Fast Track Ultra 8R at the mo for recording drums, but the projectmix has 8 XLR inputs too - was thinking about trading/selling the FTU and getting the projectmix. Any problems with it? I think I want one (or the Digidesign Command|8 variant) just for the motorised sliders :p

Don't think i've actually posted this yet!

Here's my 'new' (had it about a month now) Carvin custom 7 string:

I inherited this SG as my first guitar, along with a beautiful spanish classical, which I unfortunately don't have pictures of

Later I bought an Ibanez S series and retro-fitted EMG 81 and 85 pickups to it

Then I bought a Dean electro-acoustic

Sorry mate I've only just seen your post!
It's fantastic (I overuse this word, but it really is!). The motorised faders are very useful, give it that professional feel and the built quality is great. I also like the fact that there's 2 headphone sockets on the front - useful for 2 players or just to have 2 people listening rather than using monitors.
There's no problems at all, getting it set up in Pro Tools can be an issue at first but once it's setup it works great just like any other control desk.
I picked mine up off to bay used for £500 (some nutter put a Buy It Now price on when it was 2 months old!) and had to buy Pro Tools separately. Again I picked that up off the bay for £80 or so and just downloaded the latest version.
If you'd like to know anything else just give us a shout :)

ive just bought a 003 rack, i was going to go for a project mix, or a 003 desk, but at the end of the day your still mixing inside the box (but if thats what you want its fine) its just the same as mixing with the mouse apart from you can automate two faders at once, my next upgrade will be a proper mixing desk i think, looking at a yamaha 02R.

I looked at the 003, but didn't have enough XLR inputs and I wanted a surface not a rack mounted device.
The 02R is retro by today's standards! The studio I was in this morning has a Control 24, lovely desk although a bit too grey for the eyes!

control 24 is still a controller not a mixing desk :(, theres one at our main studio in uni, the 003 rack, is gonna break out via optical into an octopre, hopefully in january! and the 02R is a beautiful beautiful desk!

for the money, i just can't justify desks, but hats off to those who can shell out for an actual decent one. allan and griefs, behringers, i see these way too often. i opted for shelling out on some genelecs and just using software mixers til i start raking in the cash :P what stuff have you guys done in your home studios?

In terms of gear?

Monitors: KRK VXT8's (plan on getting some genelecs as secondary monitors, for comparisons)

Interface: 003 Rack using 7.4 Protools

MIDI Controller: Kontrol 49

Headphones: Beyerdynamics DT150's

Mac: 17" Macbook Pro. (next year roll on the mac pro)

Software: Protools, Logic 8, Logic 7, Reason 8, Ableton Live 7, Melodyne, + loads more

i plan on adding an octopre, and possibly a liquid mix to this setup!

In terms of what type of music do i record, a lot of band stuff, ambience, i used my studio mainly for mixing, and mastering. hardly any tracking unless im working with a band.

p.s- its Allen and Heath :D
