GeForce GTX 590 Key Features Revealed

If that is indeed the performance at 607MHz (Generally matching or beating the 6990) then if it does infact overclock like the other GF110 cores (assuming the low core speed is for power management reasons) then it would leave an overclocked 6990 quite a way behind...

Shame that most won't overclock their GPU though and will just see it at face value and think "what's the point." But I'm certainly sure they will sell a few units. :p

So chances are its going to be about the same performance as a 6990 at stock clocks and low resolutions but get beaten at high/multi-monitor resolutions, cost about £100-£150 more and possibly overclock better assuming the power draw is tamed but require another £100-£150 on a waterblock to keep temperatures under control.

More importantly:
If its noisy, the noise argument will fly out the window replaced with "its an enthusiast card".
If it's not noisy, its seen as the biggest advantage for practicality while the power draw will not need to be judged on practicality.

Roll on the 590 release, lets rip this band-aid off our hairy arm already.

It will be interesting to see the sort of beast NVIDIA cooks up when PCI-E 3.0 comes out with the new PCISIG ATX spect 225w/300w draw off the slot. The equivalent of the 460 (GTX 660? GTX 760?) will probably run without any power connectors, and dual GPU cards with the PCI-E slot + 8pin connectors will be true monsters... GTX 790 yeah! :D ... Of course I don't see myself buying one. But it would be interesting to see what kind of crazy mother*** they cook up. With prices to match too, i reckon.

POV apparently got a slightly overclocked 590 on the way with a 668MHz core link

Even without PCI-e 3+ specs I don't think power consumption will be much of an issue for nVidia in the future :D

Using this data GTX 580 SLi is ~15% faster than a 6990. Adjust the performance of the 580 SLi to account for the lower core clocks on the 590 and theoretically the 6990 is ~10% quicker than the 590.

Obviously this estimate isn't perfect but I think that it's fairly reasonable to assume that at stock clocks (assuming the 607mhz core clock is accurate) it is likely that the 6990 will be 5-10% faster than the 590.

You have to take in to account Nvidia's amazing driver team that could pull an extra 10-15% extra performance through drivers alone.

It's (down-clocked) 580 SLi on a stick. Unless nvidia have been holding back on SLi performance on purpose for a whole year (since the 580 is essentially a 480 with 32 more cores enabled, it's pretty safe to assume the drivers are very similar) I seriously doubt we will see anything like that much of a performance increase due to drivers.

Depends, if it runs at a good temp and stays quiet even when clocked to 580 stock speeds then I would say anything under £700 is a good buy, I mean what can you get 2x580s for.

its going to be a double edged sword, IF it clocks to 580 clocks its going to be hot and load as hell
but i dont think its going be get near 580 speeds

Of course it will be faster, Nvidia have to a bigger ego to release their highest end card and it not to be faster than the current fastest card from AMD. " we will see " in regards to noise and temps.

You've no idea if it will be faster or not, and we won't find out till later tonight or early tomorrow.
