Geforce GTX 780, 770 coming in May

And you are forgetting something...graphic card alone doesn't play games...people need to spend money for the rest of the system as well.

and you're forgetting that most people need or want a PC anyway, so the addition of game specific hardware is the bit that many people focus on

to quote myself and the articles I found recently - the console gaming market is currently worth something like 9bn per year, the PC gaming market 20bn
(not including hardware on either side)

people have been claiming x or y is going to be the death of PC gaming for the last 10 years or more, yet it still manages to carve out a massive niche for itself

Especially when console will access at a low level rather than through Windows/DirectX

Direct to the metal coding does give consoles an advantage, however this is the first time consoles will launch and already be outdated in terms of comparison to PC's. I.e PC's will outpace the PS4 / Xbox 720 far quicker than they did the Xbox 1 and Xbox 360.

Was confirmed that the Demo's of Unreal Engine 4 on PS4 hardware shown were already using watered down versions of the PC counterpart. The PS4 version had to be 'optimized' with reduction in quality to run the same demo.. Shows that PC is already ahead, and the PS4 isn't even out yet. The future is the Steam Box / Steam PC I tells ya..

it is startling just how much better the graphics are on the PC.

The pc version looks better but not that much better after watching the video.

point being, here we are still 6 months away from actual release, and the PC is already ahead
when the last gen of consoles were released they were pretty much on par with PC's at the time, this gen they are 6-12 months behind before they are even released

the only good thing about the next gen of consoles will hopefully be that the larger memory size will push the devs to create proper high res textures which will then also be available to PC's with the higher VRAM amounts

The problem here is:
-- Basing this on 1 demo
-- The console isn't out yet, so not much to go on other than the specs
-- How much is the PS4 going to be? Let's say it's £450 for example. Show me a compact PC for £450 that is better than the PS4? (including Bluray drive).

It's like comparing apples to oranges. We're talking about 2 different types of machines here. I'm not entirely sure that many PC gamers would move from PC to console but i would think that less people would be inclined to start getting involved in PC gaming from console.

Why would you include a Bluray Drive in the price?

Like you said, it's Apple's to oranges somewhat but that line IS becoming MASSIVELY blurred. We are so very close to EVERYTHING being the same between a Console and PC except form factor, control scheme and operating system.

Hardware wise consoles are becoming PCs.

Didn't this happen when the first Xbox launched with a Pentium III CPU, A GeForce 3 GPU, DDR ram, IDE HDD/DVD-ROM, etc.

So no custom cooler versions on release? I wonder how long we will have to wait for them?

When the GTX 670 was released last year, at least we had custom versions on release. :(

Will be looking at purchasing a GTX 780.

Just for the gits and shiggles, to show it can be done.

I reckon if you went for the crossfire option with the A10 5800k it would be another £60 cheaper and probably faster still.
