Also a £300 graphic card such as GTX670 would not doubt be quite a bit faster than the 7870 level graphic in the console, but it certainly does not "absolutely destroy it"...that's the problem.
And you are forgetting something...graphic card alone doesn't play games...people need to spend money for the rest of the system as well.
Especially when console will access at a low level rather than through Windows/DirectX
it is startling just how much better the graphics are on the PC.
The pc version looks better but not that much better after watching the video.
Is there going to be much in it?
The problem here is:
-- Basing this on 1 demo
-- The console isn't out yet, so not much to go on other than the specs
-- How much is the PS4 going to be? Let's say it's £450 for example. Show me a compact PC for £450 that is better than the PS4? (including Bluray drive).
It's like comparing apples to oranges. We're talking about 2 different types of machines here. I'm not entirely sure that many PC gamers would move from PC to console but i would think that less people would be inclined to start getting involved in PC gaming from console.
We are so very close to EVERYTHING being the same between a Console and PC except form factor, control scheme and operating system.
Hardware wise consoles are becoming PCs.
