8% slower than Titan and 20% faster than 7970 GHz from the Expreview sounds about right/not too bad i think. Depending on the price, £500-£600 still seems too much though.

Another factor I think is worth considering when looking at the figures is that the 7970GE has been out so long now a lot of us have forgotten that it is actually a factory overclocked card (the original 7970 spec was 925MHz, the GE was a kneejerk reaction by AMD to the GTX680).

So factoring that in the GTX780 beats a factory overclocked 7970 by 20% while at stock clock 863MHz (902MHz boost), but companies like Inno3D are coming straight out of the blocks with cards like the iChill GTX780 clocked at 1006MHz (1046MHz boost). So it will be interesting to see how a factory overclocked GTX780 can extend the lead.

Would be tempted at £499 to get a couple as my bonus comes through in this pay packet (25th May). Just can't justify it over my 7950s though. Might be tempted later down the line by a couple of Lightnings should they exist but not for reference models. Not for £550 ;).

I havent been keeping up to date with this new 700 series.

Will these just 'fill the gap' until the inevitable 800 series comes out? Kind of like the 500 series that just bridged the top end 400 and 600 series.

Is this looking to be a 690 beater?

Either way, I just hope it brings the price of the 690's down to a more reasonable level.

Every card has a step down, under Titan.

780 = new card, Titan with one SMX unit lasered off. Think 670 = 680 one unit cut
770 = 680 rebadge
760 = 670 rebadge
etc.

It's just a rebadge, Titan isn't taken from the top spot. Though the 780 is rumoured to be about 5% off of the Titan but UNDER £600. Nice price for the performance...

As said, it's a rebadge/refresh with a b0rked Titan to fill in a gap.

The GTX690 is still on top as the fastest nVidia card.
