Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

Still though Kaap you bought it as a gaming card so in that respect it's price is off the charts.

Err no

I bought it to check out Volta and the next gen of cards, for that it has served its purpose well.

When it comes to gaming I use my watercooled Pascal Titan SLI setup.

Is there a price you wouldn't pay Kaap, a personal limit for a card? I know you have the money so...a little bit of me feels you fet ripped off with the expensive cards

Also do you feel like you have gotten the value out of your Titan V, was ot worth near £3k?

For gaming they are not worth the money, I have said on many occasions that using one for gaming gives a performance increase over Pascal that is hardly noticeable.

On the other hand I have had the opportunity to see what NVidias next round of 12nm gaming cards are likely to perform like and that has been far more interesting. Anyone expecting a big leap forward with NVidias next round of 12nm cards are going to be a bit disappointed as SP for SP and clock for clock 12nm is no better than Pascal.

I have also said on a number of occasions that I am not loaded, PCs are my hobby and I don't think in that light it is unreasonable to spend 3k on a part in the same way as some people will spend far more than that on their cars because it is their hobby.

Having said all the above I probably won't bother with most of NVidias upcoming 12nm cards as they will be disappointing and a downgrade from the Titan V, it will only get interesting when the next Titan or XX80 Ti card is launched but I think that is a long way off and probably not until next year.

why i personally think AMD could do what they did to Intel and catch them standing still with 7nm process - if they can show on paper that theres a bigger increase in performance then previous node, it'll generate more attention and make people want to upgrade .

think it was last week NV were calling AIB for Gamescon .... should be a lot of RGB everywhere :) :(

Thanks kaap, if you had to guess would I need to wait for a 1180ti to be a worth while upgrade from a 1080 hybrid, going by your time with titan v?

The Titan V is only about 25% to 33% faster than a Titan Xp or 1080 Ti.

NVidia could do a 12nm Titan without the DP and Tensor cores the Titan V uses but this would only gain a tiny bit more performance, maybe 5% to 10%.

So to answer your question my guess is you will have to wait for the 1180 Ti which will be around Titan V performance levels.

And let's face it, once Vega is optimised for then they really fly! AMD def need to push more funding in this direction...

im hoping just doing a 7nm Vega will be like first/2nd gen Ryzen- great.. it works and hopefully cheaper - then push their next design on the 7nm to really hit home .

then again, any competition in the market is great
