Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

I'm completely confused as to who's talking about what now. At first it seemed that the 8-10% was in reference to AMD, now we're referencing it to the new Nvidia cards? Have wires got crossed somewhere over the last few posts? A smaller gain than usual after the slightly longer two and a half years gap seems like a bit of a damp squib release.

AMD? Must have been a deflection of some kind.

The 8% increase was about Nvidia. But again this is just rumor. Nothing concrete so far. If it was 8% it would mean that Turing is just a rebranded Pascal under 12nm node with a slight bump in clocks.

So, in reality no one knows what the cards will be except expensive.

The real concern I see is that the TI versions will be using 04 chip instead of the 02 chip. Which is usually reserved for the high-mid range lineup. I don't care how much faster the 04 is compared to 1080 now, if that is true, that could explain the 8% improvement. If the Ti is now using an 04 chip then the 1180/2080 would be a severally cut down variant making the 1170/2070 more in line to what the 1070 was before being replaced by the 1170ti.

Exactly this and yet you still take the rumours about which chip will power which card and present it as fact, when in reality we just don't know yet, even the expensive part isn't a certainty, although that part is probably correct.

This is still a discussion on rumor how is it that you seem to understand that it's rumor yet still call it fact? LOL
When processing the 2 terms rumor & fact creates a contradiction to one another.
The 04 chip being used for the Ti is the rumor. It's not relevant to assume if I believe it or not, its the prevailing rumor based on the video. :p

In any case I too don't believe Nvidia release details of their gaming parts on siggraph 2018 as more then likely they may reveal their server/business/professional cards. If so it really wouldn't give us any details to the gaming cards.

8% for new card doesn’t sound right I was expecting 30% or 20% ..
Isn't the 10% in relation to a re-spin of Vega on 7nm? Not new Nvidia cards?
I think people are getting the 7nm Vega and next-gen nVidia projections confused here.
Yes, but it seems very low as 7nm is supposed to offer a big improvement.

It was both.

8% was the speculated performance increase of an 1180 over a 1080ti in the AdoredTV rumour video.

<10% is also the estimated performance increase of whatever 7nm respin of vega/polaris AMD bring as an interim until Navi is ready (as it's very unlikely that AMD won't release any parts in the mean time)

Maybe the RTX and adoption of new technologies has such implications to warrant a presence at Siggraph.
More than that I just want to believe, 20 August seems so far away.

Seems pretty definitive to me, now if you had of said might instead of will, then it would have been clear that you were talking about what might happen rather than what will happen.
one being a rumour one being a fact.;)

Well anything is possible. I would be pleasantly surprised if they do. But wouldn't hold it against them if they don't.

If it were possible they did announce a release date when would you expect availability?

I recall a rumor (believed to be a false one) that Nvidia already has stock of these next gen cards now. For example: If it was a remote possibility they announced on the 20th and released the following week(s) that would go down in history. Incredible feat. But what about current inventory of Pascal? Interesting times if that came to be.

But, IMO, I see this card's release sometime either towards the end of 2018 or sometime in 2019.

At least with slower progress in development of hardware you spend less, a HD 7970 or GTX 670 still gives decent performance today (GTX 1050ti/1060 3GB), and that is almost 6 year old tech at this point.

You've already understood that it was intended towards the rumor and not fact. Your own reply reveals that much.
To be clear that statement was precursor with "But again this is just rumor." ;)

But it's all good, it was a misunderstanding.

When do you see actual availability. Regardless of when it's announced?

Yup sorry for me being picky about it. These things are easily done.

I reckon if they announce tonight, (which I don't think they will) we would see an actual release date of the end of the month and availability from their own store straight away and retailers anything up to a week later. AIB cards a month or so latter.

The issue is that the official release date and the moment AIB cards are actually in stock are two different things.

For the last two gens people had to wait weeks (as in up to 3 months), to get their AIB card of choice. Delays upon delays.
So even if they "release them" by the beginning of september, which is a realistic figure, I don't expect to receive my Asus Strix or whatever I choose in less than a month from that date.
