Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

Double the speed of a 980ti, was the level I was going to bite. However, turning a few settings down at 1440p is ok, so will hold off for as long as I can.

I hear you on that. I have a 1080ti and it runs 1440p very well. Untill 4k monitors have more features, I'm not biting. It seems like I might be stuck with my GPU for a while.

Makes no sense to even consider upgrading from a 1080Ti to an 1180. Going from previous generations, it's not far from the same card.

Didn't stop people to "upgrade" from their 780/780Ti with the fat chip to a 970/980 with a skinny chip for the sake of lower temp and "going green" :p

But then again, for the 1180 the price won't be anything like 970/980 was. 1080 was launched at £600+ (forget the BS RRP £550), so we can well expect the 1180 would be at £650+. Price won't be dropped until AMD release something that would challenge it, like how the 780 didn't drop in price until AMD launched the 290x series back then.

Im hoping for an 1160 or 1170 if the price is right....

I find the price of cards is just getting insane, especially considering the performance a console can now offer. eg 4k gaming.

Will consider it once 3rd party cards are released, I'm not interested FE cards.

Prices will probably be around £800 imo, maybe more on launch.

My overclocked 980 Ti is still great for most stuff at 1440p/144hz but an 1180 with 15% more performance or 1170 with similar performance to a 1080 Ti would be tempting at the right price, especially now I've upgraded my CPu and removed that bottleneck. Any extra frames help and would allow me to run games like The Witcher 3 maxed on my 4K TV. Sadly I can see the 1180 coming in at £700. Closer to £600/£650 and I'd likely go for it.

I'm not defending Nvidia here however I don't believe they'd treat us like Intel.

go back to 2015/2016 the GTX 980 Ti was unrivaled once you factored in most cards were pre-overclocked to 1300+mhz and all could do 1400 at least which was a good chunk faster than the competition. however less than a year later the GTX 1080 was released and yes whilst pricey it at least offered a decent performance jump against the Ti excluding the golden chip 980's

fast forward 10 months with no competition in sight from AMD Nvidia brought out the 1080 Ti at a more reasonable ( yet still expensive no doubt ) compared to the 1080 at £700 and blew away the competition.

I think people will be shocked with this card, Nvidia also has consoles to compete with now, I'd be confident in saying a good 25-35% faster than the Ti whilst priced slightly below £650 give or take.

The other issue is NVIDIA still need to make sales and they may have already saturated the market with 1070/1080's, I have absolutely no interest in the current gen. So if they do not offer a performance upgrade that I am happy with (double 980ti) then I will hold onto what I have.

Frankly the best part of this is that midrange cards will drop in price.

The price of lesser cards is already dropping,
whether in anticipation of this or just that nvidia has flooded the market. Shop around (or even OcUK) and you'll find the RX580 for £250, 1070 for £350 and 1070ti for £400. Shame OcUK isn't making good margins on stock as I'd really prefer to buy here..

Not sure if you realise or just forgotten, Nvidia don't release their big chip mainstream card right off the bet since the 600 series and the Titan. People have to wait for them to go through cycle of them milking money with the 70/80 cards first, then follow by the Titan around 6-9 months down the line for though thirsty enough but not patient enough to wait for the Ti that's release another 3-4 months+ after the Titan release. So for the Ti, you essentially have to wait around 1 year after the release of the "mid-range" 70/80 cards, before you can get your hands on it.
