Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

I notice in that leak (if true) that it's the recent and current games that get the biggest benefit (except for Crew 2 which definitely did better on my 1080ti at 4k than 47fps while streaming it).

leaks can’t wait to see more as some have sayed in mature drivers can’t wait wot new drivers can push it to...

Interesting. It might finally be a good time for me to upgrade from my 5 year old CPU next year or so then. I am hoping with the RTX stuff and new consoles coming out, we can finally make use of minimum 8 cores even at 4K to help improve games. I kind of hope Zen 2 will bring 12 cores to mainstream with a Ryzen 3700X :D

Not sure if this was posted already but i have to admit Ray Tracing in Battle Field V look very nice.

I would be willing to pay the price Nvidia is asking only IF Its possible to get 60fps @ 4k otherwise i am not paying £1200 for ray tracing at 1080p.

I cant wait till nvidia 7nm those should really good. AMD might be lost again :(

They'll all be targeting the mid-range for a while yet (6c/12t imo), why I think generally speaking my 8700k is safe for a few years of use without bottlenecking anything :)
Well Ryzen 3700X won't be out for another year anyway and consoles will be out in around 2020 so yes. lol :)

Thing is I am looking 4-5 years ahead when buying a CPU as they last at least that long these days. Might as well go 12 cores if possible without breaking the bank.

Not a chance mate, maybe at 1440p but with some settings down

That Jay guy is pretty low down on the intelligence curve. Nice guy and all, and he is doing well, so good luck to him. He is the type of person that comes up with some wacky understanding and has that overly confident character to sell it to most average people. He should work in marketing.

They've changed the tiers? WTF. Or, they haven't released a Titan and upped the prices.. Never argue with an idiot, they'll beat you with experience every time.
He reckoned they were going to change the Titan to be a completely separate product, not marketed at gamers at all. To be fair, that's pretty much what the Titan V was, and apparently they list the Titans separately on their driver page these days.

However, like I said, unless the performance increase is far beyond expectations, the "tier reshuffle" hypothesis is nonsense.

Well Ryzen 3700X won't be out for another year anyway

It should be ready around march, so only about 6/7 months if they go by the release schedule. I.e. Ryzen 1 was out about march time 2017, Ryzen 2 was launched about march 2018 etc

This shouldn’t be like this for a new card limiting ray tracing to 1080 then of course.
But on the other hand nvidia can bring another card out with 4K ray tracing costing 2 grand and ppl will still buy it .

Cool. There could be a delay though due to it transitioning to 7nm. Hopefully not. I am eager to see what clocks it hits and overall performance. I hope it beats intel in every way :)

The term you're searching for is a pseudo scientist.

I doubt it NV will delay 7nm to 2020. It will be financial suicide in the professional (and datacenter) area. Already AMD is more than 6 months ahead there according to financial analysts and investors.
So next year we going to have 7nm lineup from both companies.

Probably the most accurate comment in the entire thread :p.

Half of his videos are a load of crap and target those who have no idea about computers at all.

Although I do agree he seens a nice enough guy. Not someone I personally watch on YT anymore however.

nVidia ain't gonna be able to compete with a 7nm offering if they are stuck with 12FF - those core sizes aren't exactly economical let alone competitive on performance with a real 7nm offering.

EDIT: That said I doubt nVidia will be pushing out anything like 600+mm2 cores on 7nm so the gains from the big 12FF cores might not be quite as much as the gains compared to the average 16FF cores - it is possible even the first round of 7nm replacements for GeForce cards won't be much faster than the 12FF cores as they will probably go for smaller more economical cores at first with the costs involved at 7nm.

No doubt when they are on 7nm the die will be a lot smaller, probably back to the 400 mm2 range, but will still perform better and be cheaper hopefully. Either that or even more profit to shareholders, hopefully the former.

+1 AMD are going to need something special to compete with nvidia even with the 20 series to be perfectly honest.

If RTX ends up being the best thing since sliced bread. Then AMD are going to struggle.
