Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

Really tempted to buy the aorus 1080ti from overclockers at £629
Or should I wait to see the benchmarks for the rtx2080, and pay the bit extra and go for that?

It boils my **** waiting to make a decision :-(

Not to say I am itching for news about the 20xx cards but I am even checking wccftech lol. I need to get out more :D

Even I’m keeping an eye open in case any genuine leaks come to light.

Begrudge the cost but if they are good performers I might just get one and be done with it. Solid 4K/60 is what I’m after, RTX can stay disabled for all I care.

I don't think you would be dissappointment either way.

Part of me thinks this is very new to consumer grade stuff.....so what problems might there be?

But I do think there will be more 1080ti deal to come. Probably from the rain forest that likely have 100s in stock of different models.

I would say if you are going to buy an already outdated product, just buy a second hand one

I'm very interested in the RT and dlss. I guess whilst the technique eats up silicone, there is always going to be a price shift. To me, it sounds similar to having two components in one. Instead of a seperate card for ray tracing, it is built in. I've always jumped on new tech, so in the days of physx cards i'd happily pay for a gpu and physx card. So when i look at the RT this way, it doesnt seem so expensive. I also understand that many will see this as being forced to buy something that may or may not (gamble) have good support going forwards. Fortunately i fall in the early adopter of new unknown tech, and my devil is kind of glad because it gives it a better chance for the future.
Between graphics and framerates i will always trade in fps for higher fidelity. I'd play crysis at 720p ultra 30fps over 1680x1050 50fps at medium/high. Tbh, i even played through sub 30 fps before any card upgrades. So, ill have no problem jumping from my 4k or 165hz gaming and play some 1080p with new graphics effects. I'm excited, but being an early adopter hits your pocket and ive learned to except this since my first voodoo 1 :)

AMD has never charged more for their CPU+GPU package e.g. 2400g, just the opposite, so not sure I buy that "two components in one" price argument.

As for FPS vs IQ, image quality is preferred up to a point, but <30 FPS is a place I (and I assume most others) won't go.

Lmao, 2400g is 200mm2 die size, 2080ti is near 800mm2, these are not the same thing in terms of a price comparison

Gotta agree with above sentiments about pricing of 2080 and 2080ti: They're huge dies, right at the reticle limit. It costs exponentially more to manufacture larger dies, so comparisons are difficult and claims of extreme overpricing are a bit ...meh...

In saying this, I think NVidia have overcharged for the GPUs for a little while now, and they're probably making 20% more margin than they should, but I certainly don't blame them. I'd do the same thing as it means more money for R&D of future products and interesting tech. Make hay while the sun shines and all that.

On the topic of DLSS, it feels a like NVidia have this great compute/AI silicon that they want to sell into the desktop GPU space and they're shoehorning something in that gives a mild benefit. My gut feeling is that the extra (multi-Billion) transistors would be more effective spent as compute units, ROPs, etc.

The whole AI thing is so hot right now though, so you've got to get it into the product cause buzzwords... Certainly wasn't the case when I used NN in my Thesis circa 2008, flippin' pain in the ass for mild benefit!

It's not an argument, just the way I see it in turns of why there is such a huge price increase. There is a lot of silicon being used for something that will only be supported in a few titles, whilst the rest is used for all titles.
