Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

It isn't actually a thick backplate just looks like one.

Yeah, just watched a teardown. I thought they’d made a really high quality product, it still looks great, but it’s just very, very thin metal with rolled edges. Much less material than previous backplates. Perhaps that why they sent a last minute email telling people they couldn’t disassemble the product...

Bit of a shame really, as I thought at least people spending all that money are getting something really special. That said it’s still imo one of the best looking gpu coolers ever.

The blocked off 6pin does look a little odd, first i've seen one.

At first I didn’t like it, but it’s grown on me. I assume it’s a cost thing, cheaper to have a single tool with an insert than two different ones.

Anyone know if OCUKs AIB cards will still be shipped around the 20th? I have an MSI DUKE 2080TI on preorder and want to take a day off to receive it ;)
I ordered just after the presentation so am relatively confident I'd be in the first batch

The Ti's are running slightly later atm, around the 24th+

Glad I waited now. It’s looking good for the 2080 and the FE is a nice bit of kit. It will be my first FE. Just got to decide if I splash out and go for a ti.

End of the day what’s the difference in sinking a grand into the latest iPhone/TV and buying the latest graphics card. Other than its always been relatively cheap previously. Plenty of options to cater for different budgets, just like phones.

If you need to justify it, i like to look at as hours of entertainment Vs price. Its nothing compared to a holiday, don't feel bad :)
I'll use this mental justification when i eventually upgrade to 4k and want a second Ti

In what way? depending on the game its only about (on average) 10% faster than a card based on over two year old tech.

..Anyway you look at it, that's a very weak incremental improvement over the last generation for the increase in cost and these cards are very average when it comes to non ray traced performance increases.

I assume he means Nvidia's leaked benches point to an actual improvement whereas the specs would have it on par. Everyone knows the prices of these cards, you either pay it or you don't, but no-one wants to have the insult of paying more for less.

We issue all our employees with iPhone X but we can only change them every two years under tax law. Fortunately for me we have a new employee starting on Sept. 20th so he gets my iPhone X and I get the new iPhone X S - there are perks to being CEO :)

So current numbers we are seeing are without DLSS and on factory FE clock - I cannot wait to see how these cards perform with DLSS enabled games and an overclock to ~2100 - I suspect we are going to see a performance % increase in some cases in triple figures over previous generation and at least high double figures for most other DLSS supported titles.

It will only get better

That’s the card I’ll be getting I think but the Ti version :p. Love the silver on it, back plate is just stunning.

Been using nothing but Msi cards for a while now. They really have been one of the best if not the best cards performance and cooling wise over the last few generations.

I'm willing to bet money that initially these 2080's were going to be the 2080Ti's, but when Nvidia saw what poor improvement they offered over the 1080Ti, they shifted the goalposts and created the 2080Ti out of what would have been the 2080 Titan, which would have originally launched in 2019.

Turing Titan will be the fully enabled TU102 chip at some point in the near future.

Yes, but there have always been a couple of versions of the Titan cards, I bet there will only be one this time, because one is already out there under the 2080Ti moniker.

That looks really good. Much better than the EVGA abomination.

Then you my friend must be a gambler :). I wouldn't bet money on that idea.
I still think people are in dream world if they think the 2080 isn't going to be much better than a 1080 Ti. "On average" doesn't always matter either. I suspect new games we will see some 35-40% improvements from the 2080 in some cases. If that matters to you, it's a big improvement. If you smooth this number out/average down by adding in older games, then sure, the average is lower but if you play games and at the resolutions that make best use of the new GPU's it's going to be miles ahead.
End of day, these GPU's have a lot of new tech - 2+years of further development.
